fencing this year

Schoolcraft's membership has dropped off a lot with the move from Fridays to Tuesday nights. The last couple session its just been me and Doug one of the other old school fencers.
Last session we had a one hour hundred touch epee match. I won 100-99.
We're an even match and he won a rating off me at a tournament last year. I feel like I have a more diverse set of moves I could rely on and I've had a lot more of the tournament experience. He's got a longer reach, better point control and is a little faster. His footwork seems a lot weaker than mine.
We're moving back to Fridays next semester so things should pick up.
I've been bumming because I have been stuck working late and weekends most of the year so I haven't been able to hit any tournaments or do my Jerzy lessons.
I've been having fun trying out a french grip for epee instead of a foil. I'm finding so far that the ability to switch between pommelling and not pommeling seems more an advantage to me than the extra leverage than the pistol grip provided.
I think I'll buy another two off of fencing net's store after this paycheck to give me the 4 I want for competition.
I might be able to go to some if they're not too far away and I do the required overtime in the mornings on Saturday. I have to imagine working just before a tournament will be a huge distraction for me.
I'm not sure what's going on with FAP-Fenton. They seemed to be moving more and more to merging with UFO.
UFO seems to be the 'big club' membership wise in Michigan now. Their working with the Masters I think will give them a lot more strength in competitions and they seem to have the key people there.
Maybe its twisted but its more fun for me beating a guy with a crowd cheering for my opponent and noone on my side.
Without the Jerzy lessons its back to thinking things out on my own and the Selberg videos and analyzing high level bouts on youtube.
October might be out but I think I should try to find something to go to in November.
My job is pretty chaotic. They've had so many layoffs I've given up completely on job security. I'm saving up money, if it happens to me I am seriously thinking of heading out to Florida.
I enjoyed my trip out there last March to visit my brother. Maybe its a mid life crisis or something from turning 40 but the idea of starting over appeals to me a lot.
