2009 has been a pretty crazy year. I'm on manager number 10 this year so far. Being October now that puts me at a new manager on average every month. My position now is as a mortgage processor.

Job security is still pretty much zero, we're still in the holdings part that upper management talks about wanting to reduce or sell off whenever I read news articles about it.

The hours are pretty bad still also. I'm pretty much stuck working 7 days a week now which prevents me from fencing. Even working 7 days I'm hopelessly swamped and feel overwhelmed. After I finish this post I have to go back to work for another like 7 hours and deal with 250 emails that are in my inbox at work that piled up.

I'm working on an accelerated online bachelor's degree from Baker college in business management now.

My plan is to use it to find something that has hours that let me do fencing again at a club.

Michigan's economy continues to spiral downwards. I think if I had anything I could do I would prefer to move over to Ohio and train over at Hooked on Fencing doing epee. I loved their club when I visited it.

My parent's failing health is a concern though with moving. With my brother having moved away I'm the only one who can help them with things. I have about 12 more courses to go so no hurry with that decision.

After a number of months of experiments I've found that drinking water with lemons in it negates one of the unpleasant side effects of my gall bladder surgery, the dumping syndrome bit. Its a better approach than spending the tourney day fasting which was the other option prior to figuring it out.

I was concerned it might prevent me from being able to compete again as they aren't really big on letting you take restroom breaks at tourneys when you're up and I felt if I fasted I would have poor performance and be at a risk of collapsing or something.

Someone told me a while back that the local clubs stopped paying J for directing the low level events so he decided to pull back a lot from refereeing. I haven't had confirmation on it, but if true I would find it amusing and wonder what he had pulled this time that would finally of gotten a reaction.

Slacker Says:
Mike, I do not envy you your lot in life right now. Being a mortgage processor must be pretty stressful.
I have no wise insight on how you can carve out a little time to fence, but maybe if you make it a priority, tell yourself you're doing it for your health, you might allow yourself to play a little without guilt.
