Directing epee at the USACFC

Anyone who believes directing epee is EASY (especially on a wooden floor) needs to try it for a while.
I had no expectations that it would be easy. I did hope that I'd be useful.
Pool bouts were initially *not that difficult*. We did not have the boxes with remotes and scoring capabilitity and after trying a couple of bouts recording on the clipboard and then just keeping track with fingers, I switched to recording the score on folded paper in my hand to lessen the likelihood of mistakes and managed to botch (recoverable) one pool badly by both flipping and inverting the three bouts. [Put A for C and vice versa and flipping left and right.] Fortunately, the clubs had someone recording all scores and I had my slips of paper which made it easy to see where I slipped up. I was, however, horrifically embarassed.
I made some mistakes. I learned from them and tried not to make the same mistakes and asked questions.
The moment of epee fencers looking at me like I'd grown two heads was when there was about 1 1/2 minute left in the bout and the score was 5-5 and I announced that since there was a tie, we'd now set the clock to one minute, select priority.... Yeah. I had a moment of stupidity. I knew better. Everyone quickly corrected me. I said of course.
