Time to update the description. WSV50 fencer since 2005. Mostly recovered from two meniscus tears in 2006 (not fencing related) and other minor injuries. Focused on improving fencing skills and avoiding injuries. Goal is to qualify for the WSV60 team in 2012.
Bladepoint, the only local club with its own facility (24/7 floorspace), has closed. Some club members are trying to find another space and start a new club with the existing members.
I am saddened by this change in circumstances and I wish the members success in finding a location which will be suitable and affordable.
Note: I changed the title because I thought the original title sounded too much like a funeral notice. I really don't know what to say about this news other than I co

Some drama is unfolding around me and since I don't have a clear grasp on facts versus speculation, I'm stuffing a sock in my mouth for the most part and noting only the part that pertains to me.
I was at work, and bumped (literally) into person X, who is one of the people impacted by the drama and the odds of this happening were reasonably slim since I only work out of that office about once a week. A coincidence... but nothing extraordinary.
Today, I'm at another office and I encounter

Things are going on and I am biting my tongue, knowing that one should not say things in public places that one does not want to see published on the front page of the newspaper in the morning. More, it's wise not to comment at all because anything that you say can be twisted. Say, "my boss is wonderful", and it will be repeated as, "Linda made some nasty comment about her boss."
Having noted all the reasons to bit my tongue, I'm going to say only this:
Last Saturday's practice wasn't really much different than the Saturday before that or any of the many Saturdays that preceded it. Still, I can feel differences in the way I fence. I'm still not close to where I want to be but I'm using my fingers more in bladework and when I miss a touch, I'm immediately remising/parrying/or whatever is necessary in a way that is succeeding more frequently than in the past.
I stayed late again to fence with the second, less experienced group of fencer

My husband has an unfortuante habit of "teasing me" by making negative comments about me and cannot understand why I become upset when he does this. Friday evening's teasing began with a comment about how I dislike all food and only eat about five things and went downhill from there until I couldn't take it any more and did the verbal equivalent of smacking his nose with a rolled up newspaper several times. Bad husband! Stop insulting me. Stop making negative comments to me. Stop criticiz

I've cancelled out of a vet event in KS and SabreCave due to scheduling conflicts and other concerns. [For one thing, I have a wedding to attend and since the long time friend/former co-worker has been unmarried for about 20 years since his divorce, I think attendance is mandatory.]
I have signed up for the NJ Senior Olympics and sent my check, waiver, and registration form as well as signing up on AskFred.net.
I have cancelled my hotel reservation for NAC-A after checking finances and deciding the cost-benefit ratio was insufficient to warrant this expenditure. I have faxed my registration for the NAC-C to the USFA and I've gone through THS to reserve a room. ...More
Now that I've announced my intentions to be frugal with fencing this season, I discover they're having a Senior Olympics with fencing in NJ and it's open to non-Jersities.
Ack!
I've signed up on askfred.net and I've printed out the waiver.
I figure driving is about $100 and two nights in a hotel is another $200 unless I can find a cheap place nearby. [I tend to like clean hotels.
Still, it's a chance to fence with VETS and that's something that I just don't get that often around here so...
I owe... I owe... but off to fence I go?
Hmmmm.... Which one of the seven dwarfs am I this time? After 12+ hours driving, it will probably be Sleepy.
Unless I win the lottery soon, I'm going to cancel my hotel reservation for the NAC-A.
Before replacing my car, I called both children and asked if there was any possibility that either one of them would need financial assistance within the next year.
"Oh, no. We're fine. Go ahead and buy the car."
Yeah. Yeah. Life happens.
At least the financial complications are due to relatively happy reasons. Suze Orman, however, would not approve of me covering both requests.
Last night, I was feeling rather pleased with myself during lessons because I HAVE improved my parries and while Coach corrected my form, it was obvious to me that this constant effort is paying off in faster response and correct responses. And then....
Coach wanted me to do an action that was somewhat similar and yet different from one I've done before. It was very simple: take the blade and hold then thrust.
A beginner learn this in 3 tries or less. Probably once would be all that w
