Time to update the description. WSV50 fencer since 2005. Mostly recovered from two meniscus tears in 2006 (not fencing related) and other minor injuries. Focused on improving fencing skills and avoiding injuries. Goal is to qualify for the WSV60 team in 2012.
Last night, I dreamed that many of the veterans got together someplace not remembered for a clinic and informal competition for the primary purpose of preparaing for the world cup. Some of us, including me, who weren't going were also there and after fencing, we gathered in someone's house to watch videos and talk until after nightfall.
It was a weird dream in many ways that captured my bittersweet feelings. It's not that I want to go to Moscow; it's that I want to be fencing at the skill

Why is it that I can diet and exercise for a week and not lose a single ounce but if I make french fries for my husband and decide to have a plate for myself, I put on 5 pounds?
I kid you not.
It was not a large plate. It wouldn't have even been the equivalent of supersizing it at McDonalds.
Grumble!
I discovered this unpleasant surprise when I got on the scales at the gym and discovered I weighed 5 pounds more than I had Friday in the same style of clothing.
Try to ignore (1) the idiot expression on my face and (2) the bug bites on my body. The picture below shows me wearing my jeans with the "muffin top" exposed. One of my minor objectives for the next season is to flatten that stomach and tone the arms a little more. I haven't been able to do upper body exercises for a while due the right rotor cuff tear. It's minor and I want to keep it that way. They told me not to lift anything above shoulder height and I presume that means no more chin-u

As before, the lesson focused on correcting my movements in attack, parry, etc. I've been pulling my arm fully back after each riposte rather than pausing to see the response so I'm trying to change this. Also, I'll do a few dozen parry-5s perfectly in front of the mirror and then when I have my lesson, the elbow goes out at an odd angle rather than a nice, 90-degree angle.
Too many unnecessary movements. The goal is to make my actions tight and efficient which will, as a result, make the

On to way to practice tonight, I stopped at the mall and purchased motivation. It cost $19.75.
To be specific, I purchased a pair of DKNY skinny jeans that had been CONSIDERABLY marked down to the point that I decided to buy them if only to help me stick to my diet and exercise routine.
Back in my day, we would have called these hip huggers.
They fit perfectly and when I sit down, I know exactly how much I need to lose and where I need to lose it.
If I want to improve my fencing skills next season (and I do) I think I need to do more than 3 practices a week and one lesson. Explicitly, I think I need to find more competitions that give me an opportunity to fence strategically. Thus, I'm looking at going to the NAC-A just to have a chance to fence other women fencers. [Although I note most of them will be younger and faster than me.]
There are very, very few women sabre fencers in Indiana. Any suggestions for competitons that might be worth the resources required to get there?
Today is day two of caffeine de-tox. I woke with a headache, repressed the desire to vomit, and ate something relatively light and safe. I spent two hours at the gym today, doing 30 minutes on the ET followed by a relatively light lower body workout that re-added the 50-lunge-steps-across-the-gym while holding 5-lb weights so I expect the headache to be replaced by a buttache tomorrow morning. I ended the workout with PT in the hot tub followed by more PT in the locker area.
I got what I wanted for my birthday: I finished in the top 8 at the Summer Nationals in WSV50. Explicitly, I finished 6th. That finish was high enough... just barely... to put me on the WSV50 team alternate list. Woot!!!!
My memory is not good but to the best of my recollection, I was in a pool with Deb Stopak, Jane Eyre, Lisa Brown, Tina Jacobson, Miyako DeRose, and Karen Lum.
My first bout was with Deb and I managed to take the lead, she brought it back to 4-4, and I was lucky

I'm a wimp. I bought a stick on bra. Actually it was a pair of stick-ons and they stayed in place very well, did not show above the shirtlines, and worked very well imho. I'm saving them to wear around home occasionally.
My husband is still puzzled as to why I've suddenly purchased tank tops, etc. when I avoided these for several years.
I would think the reason is obvious. He keeps the house cold and yes, even in winter. I wear SWEATSHIRTS at home in the winter. However, I had an oc

I finished 46th out of 69, which means made the cut-off for a DE and I lost to C. Taylor, who was 20th and went on to finish tied for third.
I had two victories in the pool and if I remember correctly, my indicator was a -5. This was not wonderful but it was also not awful.
Of those touches, every single one of them (minus one against either Zug or French) was a second intention touch or a defense action. The one touch that was NOT was the one time I saw a chance to do a simultaneous
