Time to update the description. WSV50 fencer since 2005. Mostly recovered from two meniscus tears in 2006 (not fencing related) and other minor injuries. Focused on improving fencing skills and avoiding injuries. Goal is to qualify for the WSV60 team in 2012.
Two weeks ago, I went to a local competition and was defeated 5-0 by a college student with a foreign accent who was (imho) a very, very good fencer. My initial reaction was reinforced when I directed a few bouts (the pool was self-directed) and then I lost my DE 3-15 and noticed how clean and tight his actions were. Thus, when he mentioned that he was an exchange student (from another country) at a nearby college for one semester and was looking for more training than he could get with the c

Yesterday, the pilate class moved to the new equipment and I haven't yet decided how I feel about the new machines and the new room.
In the old room, the machines were lined up side by side with a mirror on the side wall so I could look over and see what everyone else is doing. Now, we're in a larger room with two rows of machines and I'm having trouble seeing what the instructor is saying. [Yes, I mean that literally.]
I have some minor complaints about the shoulder protectors on the new machines, but there are

Reset the counter for detoxing from Diet Coke and I fell off the wagon NOT because I wanted a Diet Coke but because I needed one. Honestly. I was driving in the early morning hours (which means pitch black darkness) and pouring rain and I literally had to hurt myself occasionally to stay awake during a very long and boring drive in a fleet vehicle.
It...was...not...worth...it.
I pulled in at a rest stop about halfway to my destination and bought a Diet Coke.
The urge for a Diet Coke is more intense at work than anywhere else. Worse, the machines surround me and taunt me.
"Come on. Put some change in. Get a Diet Coke. You know you want one."
Last night's exercise routine was the usual short routine of stretching, 40 minutes on the ET, 10 minutes of crunching (100 regular crunches and 150 modified crunches of one form or another) while icing the knee, followed by 20 minutes ini the hot tub, doing PT exercises for the elbow and then PT exe

Thursday's lesson was horrible in that I didn't have two functional brain cells working in my head that night. Saturday was better both because we had a guest who is a very good fencer and because I seem to be returning to normal after de-toxing.
I did eat cake for the first time in about 3 years but that was because one of the offices had a birthday celebration and after three hours, I couldn't stand it any longer.
I did remove the icing from the slice of cake before eating it.
Or is this number 184,395? After a while, I lose count.
I fell off the wagon and had Diet Coke and Dark Chocolate M&Ms at the last NAC and haven't had an M&M since. I have, however, been addicted to Diet Coke and it's not good for my acid reflux (or my overall health).
So here I go again.
My last Diet Coke was Friday.
Thus, 14 days since my last M&M and 2 days since my last Diet Coke.
Based on previous experience (and I have a LOT of experience with this), once I've gone a

The attached picture shows my finger after another fencer literally put his sabre through my glove. For the purpose of illustrating the action, we replaced the sabre with a knitting needle for the photo.
I went to two locations this weekend for a total of 4 competitions. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment. No, I have not yet resolved the problems I've been focusing most upon lately.
First, I note that I am NOT a good director. I have no illusions about this fact and I direct local events only when asked and will decline unless I'm fairly certain that I'm at least as good as the other folks there.
So you can guess this is leading into me saying that I directed a few bouts. Yes, our poo
