It's been about a month since I last ate any chocolate and I'm not touching it again. Not unless I see proof that's it's being manufactured in the U.S.

Watch your food intake people! Some of the food we're eating is being made in China and the same ingredient that sickened our cats and dogs (and sometimes killed them) is being used in their manufacturing of food products for humans.

I want a warning label on all products telling me w ...More Read More

I'm back from the Purdue Open and I'm both pleased and annoyed with myself over how I performed.

I had 4 victories and 1 defeat and the defeat really bugs the heck out of me because that was the off-weapon fencer in our pool who was easily defeated by everyone else. I kept hitting my wrist on her blade. I could SO kick myself. This will serve as a reminder that I must never underestimate anyone or go into a bout thinking that I SHOULD win this one.

I made some small improvements on adj ...More Read More

The chocolate and caffeine avoidance continues and I find I am becoming more, now less, twitchy. I have a hair trigger reflex and this is NOT good.

I think I've been too distracted by the election.

In Fencing Journals Easing back into the routine Entry Tools Rate This Entry

Now that the knee is no longer swollen, I'm easing back into the old routine. Tonight, I did the usual 30 minutes on the ET followed by 3 sets of 12 on the leg extension and the leg press.

If all goes according to plan, I'll get back to the reclining leg press and the calf workout before Sunday.

The rule is 48 hours or rest after working a muscle group and Wed. is pilates so the earliest I'll try to ease back into a longer leg set is Friday.

Saturday is the Purdue Open and I hope/ex ...More Read More

I got up in time to go to DeDicco, glanced at my knee, walked around for a little bit, and decided not to go. Definitely not. Instead, I went to practice and made it a point to fence 5-point bouts (at leasta) with 6-7 other fencers and that was about as much as I would have fenced had I gone to DeCicco. Additionally, I stayed late and got a lesson.

Since I'm constantly telling myself what I do badly, I'm making a point to note areas of improvement. I'm doing much better at being patient ...More Read More

It's been three weeks since I last ate an M&M and I regret to report that this has not had the desired effect. After due review of all the evidence, I've come to the conclusion that my current problems can be traced to one of the two items listed below:

1. Stress is contributing to my relapse into acting like a character from that bad old sitcom, Friends. Given that Mother is now mostly confined to a wheelchair and that I'm visiting her weekly, I'd say I've got a fair amount of stress and ...More Read More

I still haven't figured out what caused the rather obvious food poisoning symptoms. I DID eat the other half of the sandwich today without getting sick and I also finished the second half of something else I'd eaten before the oh-my-gawd-how-far-to-the-bathroom symptoms hit.

I guess it's a good thing the Louisville competition scheduled for today was cancelled. I spent the day making calls from my home phone as a volunteer for Obama, using the online neighbor-to-neighbor tool.

Tonight's lesson was not perfect. I'm missing far more than I'm succeeding in mastering skills. However, I note that I FEEL it more and if you don't know what I mean by FEEL IT then I probably cannot adequately explain it.

I've a long way to go but the basics are pretty much there.

One problem Coach pointed out was that I wasn't kicking out my front foot properly. I don't know how or why I picked up this bad habit right before (or during) the competition last Saturday, but I'm working ...More Read More

Today, I'm home a little early because I took vacation time from work to go to a woman's roundtable where the speakers included Michelle Obama. The organizer used a phrase that I'd heard before: Ring of Fire. That's what the counties surrounding Marion County (Indianapolis) are commonly called by the Obama volunteers because while Indianapolis has a good Democrat population, the surrounding counties are pure red.

For this ring of fire, they have an office to the north, south, west, and. ...More Read More

This morning's trip to the gym showed a rapid weight gain. WTF????

I stepped off the scales and checked the weight. Off by two pounds. Whew!

Still, my weight has risen and I expect it to rise more as I make some changes in diet.

Day one: 6 in. tuna salad sandwich from Subway for breakfast. Yes, really. It's got bread, lettuce, and tomato. That covers the basics. I also had one raw peach.
