Rant warning.

I am NOT looking forward to the Summer Nationals. I've worked hard all year in preparation for this and now I do not want to go.

My husband has suggested vitamins. I bought and ate a small bag of M&Ms yesterday. [That didn't help although I note that I did feel a little better temporarily.]

Part of the problem is work-related. Unless I'm given a time machine or a teleportation device, I am NOT going to be able to meet the July deadlines set at work by upper management.

I am thinking/obsessing about work while fencing and thinking about fenc ...More Read More

Today, I arrived at work at 0600 hours, took care of some important things, and went to camp in time to walk around the track and do warm up exercises.

I note that I am STILL killing myself by reaching out to take a parry, which means it looks like a counter attack. I practice this manuever over and over and over again and when I'm practicing by myself, I'm fine. Put me into a bout and I reach OUT and the director awards parry and riposte to my opponent.

Every frigging time.

Sigh!

I'm attending fencing camp this week while trying to catch up at work. No, the camp is not after working hours. Originally, I was scheduled to be off 40 hours this week but then the schedule for the computer deployment was moved back to late May and early June with a requirement for an inventory to be completed for all three offices NLT July 31st and... well... if I don't get the trade-in stuff out of here (need to ship elsewhere), I have to cut open the boxes, pull the stuff out, scan the ba ...More Read More

I've been searching frantically for some clue about what caused my knee to suddenly decide to swell. After going through all my activities of the past three weeks, diet, etc., I've finally come to the realization that there are three changes that could have contributed to the knee swelling:
(1) Work: The computer deployment had me (still has me) moving equipment.
(2) Driving: The knee hasn't liked cramped spaces since the injury and tends to swell after long drives and airplane flights. I ...More Read More

I went to the gym before practice and walked in the swimming pool before spending some time in the hot tub and then driving to practice. Coach wasn't there today so we quadriple stripped and did a pool of ten. IOW, everyone who was there fenced everyone else. I only won two bouts although I note one of them was against a B fencer. How did I managed that? (1) he was tired and (2) he was working on developing certain manuevers versus trying to win the bouts.

I was trying a few things th ...More Read More

I don't know what the heck I did wrong, but now my entire body is swollen. In addition to my knee deciding to swell so badly that I cannot bend or straighten it, my fingers are swollen. The last time this happend, I'd eaten an entire bag of potato chips so I could easily trace the source of the problem to diet. Today, I haven't a clue why I'm swelling up like the girl in the Charlie Wonka factory. I HAVE eaten some blueberries, but I've not turned blue. Yet.

I've been drinking a great d ...More Read More

Last night, I thought I was doing a little better on reading the opponent's actions and responding. Tonight, I had a lesson with the coach and it became immediately obvious that I was still lagging far behind everyone else.

I also have a minor setback: My knee is swollen and I feel shooting pains down the back of the leg.

I plan to spend time tomorrow at the gym, walking in the swimming pool.

For now, I'm sitting at my desk with the leg elevated and wearing the cryocuff sleeve.

I thought I was joking about overindulging in comfort food after a particularly bad Monday, but on Tuesday, I got on the scales and noted a 5 pound gain since the last weigh-in just three days earlier.

It's true, stress does cause one to gain weight. However, I suspect the reason it caused me to gain weight was because I overindulged in Mexican food. Explicitly, Chili Con Queso and several chips.

Easy method for today: Leave the billfold and all money at one office while driving across town to work at the second and third offices. Sigh! No lunch, either.

Today was another day to visit Mother. I returned home and immediately ate 54,384 calories worth of whatever didn't move that wasn't an M&M.

I did not/will not go to fencing practice tonight. I will endeavor to get off my overly large rear end in a few moments and drag myself to the gym.

When I go to the gym, I need to eit ...More Read More

I had a day from hell at work yesterday so I tried to block it out through exercise.

I did the usual 30 minutes on the ET followed by a lower body workout with the weights at 100 for the reclining leg press and 75 for the calves. I only walked for 4 laps in the swimming pool before finishing with shoulder and wrist exercises in the hot tub and then the usual OT exercises in the locker room.

At home, I over indulged in chili con queso, which I consider to be comfort food.

I'm still mis ...More Read More
