Time to update the description. WSV50 fencer since 2005. Mostly recovered from two meniscus tears in 2006 (not fencing related) and other minor injuries. Focused on improving fencing skills and avoiding injuries. Goal is to qualify for the WSV60 team in 2012.
Too much to do and not enough time to do it. The hurrier I went, the more mistakes I made and the behinder I got. I left work late and reached the gym just before pilate started. Afterwards, I went to fencing and I couldn't even win a 5-touch bout against one of the kids. Yes, I was really that bad.
I'm going to be the bunny in the pool at all 4 competitions at Rosemont if I don't pull out of this tailspin.
Tomorrow is another fencing night and Friday I hope to spend a couple of hours

I had a body comp at the gym Monday and was shocked to see my body fat ratio is STILL climbing slowly and I'm still losing muscle mass. I am NOT pleased to have lost 2 inches around the thigh because it was muscle, not fat, that was lost.
Thus, I've decided to revert back to some of my pre-injury exercises, modified to accommodate the changed circumstances.
I'm not supposed to do exercises which require my arms to be over my head (except on the left side) but that means I can still do bi

I am astonished by a news article that has been circulating regarding an email sent in 2003 by an attorney who mentioned a couple of Canadians on the jury. Canadians? On a jury?
It seems that Canadians has become a code word for racists to use when they want to refer to a peson of African descent.
Say what?????
I'd never heard of this before, but then I don't hang around with racists.
As some of my friends have been discussing this, the main question asked is: Then what do racist

I've been going through the rules and I THINK I've found the answer to Epee Question 318.
t.67 2. The Referee must take note of possible failures of the electrical equipment and must annul the last touch registerd in teh following circumstances:
(c) If the apparatus fortunitously registers a touch on the side of the competitor against whom the touch was registered, for example, after a beat on the blade, by any movements of his opponent, or as a result of any cause other than a properly m

I took the sabre 8 rating out for an unplanned drive again yesterday. If I had anticipated this, I would have spent more time studying videos, but I didn't and thus I really, really need to watch some videos over the next two weeks before I plan to direct at another competition.
My major areas of weakness remain:
(1) Lack of confidence. I was very rattled by a coach who kept grabbing his hair with both hands and screaming, "How could you not see that was clearly....!" over and over again

About three months ago, a freelance author visited the club a few times and I worked with her and answered some questions in e-mail. This month, the article was published. It's a nice layman's take on fencing.
318. Fencer X attacks, and the Referee clearly sees the machine indicate a good touch when X‘s point is on the blade in front of Fencer Y’s guard. Subsequent tests reveal no rust, glue or other foreign substance on the blade.
a. Award a touch for X.
b. Annul the touch if the Referees can recreate the situation.
c. Annul the touch.
My recollection of this one is dim but I THINK I missed this one. Let's see how many unstated things I read into the question that the question is not rea

310. Fencer X attacks with a fleche and is off the strip with both feet just before the attack lands. Fencer Y had started a counter attack before X left the strip. The
Machine indicates a double touch.
a. Award a touch for Y
b. Award a double touch
c. No touch
I besaid this is a, award a touch for Y. However, I realized that I'm reading this as X going off the back of the strip. Oops. Nowhere does it say back of strip, it says strip, which presumably means he went off the S

I think I got this one wrong and I cannot imagine how is could be anything other than b. X has lost the bout 5-2
306. In a pool bout, Fencer X has received a YELLOW CARD for non-conforming equipment and is losing 3-2. Fencer Y attacks and X counter attacks; both hit on valid surface, with the machine indicating a double touch. In the course of the action, X falls.
a. X is now losing 4-3
b. X has lost the bout 5-2
c. X has lost the bout 5-3
