  1. The beginning of my training year

    by , 06-30-2007 at 11:22 PM
My right knee hurts from all the driving I did in the last week (around 800 miles), AND I haven't fenced since last Sunday. If I go in Monday, I guarantee no one will be there because everyone's at Summer Nationals. Oh, well. I'll get in touch with the trainer after Miami and get started on my training regimen for next year. At the very least, I can say I did keep my hand in this year, as I planned, even though I couldn't go to Australia.

I don't feel like going to Miami, but ...

  2. Testing the elbow

    by , 06-30-2007 at 05:13 PM
Since all my club members are on vacation or at the summer nationals, I went to the other club in town to fence a light workout.

    (1) I needed to fence as I'm still slowly coming back from the knee injury and haven't yet recovered the ability to move easily and/or adjust my speed of movement.

    (2) I needed to know how badly this tennis elbow was going to bother me at the SN. Since I'm only fencing one event and don't realistically expect to do much fencing, I think I'll ...

  3. Coaching Philosophy

    by , 06-29-2007 at 10:43 PM
I have been seeing the idea of a “Coaching Philosophy” in many different places in the last year. It came up in a conversation I had with another coach last summer. Coaching philosophy was discussed in a book on coaching children that I was reading a few months ago. RIT discussed the idea of a coaching philosophy in his blog a few weeks ago.

At the time of the first conversation I had about a coaching philosophy, I thought that it was worth giving some thought. I have been coaching ...

  4. Tendonitis

    by , 06-27-2007 at 11:11 PM
And the diagnosis is as expected. I have tendonitis. I have a pamphlet with exercise instructions and I picked up a tennic elbow brace at the local drug store.

After the SN, I'll take it as easy as possible.

I was hoping to go to the Mr. Ma Veteran's Camp in August but I don't know if that's wise now. I'e never had this problem before.

Next step: A wireless mouse or a very long PS/2 extension cable so I can make smaller movements.

    I hate ...

  5. The latest knee update

    by , 06-27-2007 at 11:09 AM
I'm still not yet released for normal routines; however, the range of motion is normal and the problem is that I'm lop-sided and off-balance because the quad muscle is just not recovering very well. I was at 72% last time and I'm at 74% now. Yes, it's going the right direction but I'm not over the hump yet.

I have more exercises to do, including squatting while holding onto something (because I get "stuck"). [Help! I've squatted and I can't get up!]

    I can, ...
