  1. New Year's Eve Eve

    by , 12-31-2009 at 02:22 PM
The camp was finishing up Wednesday, and when I came in the kids were supposed to be task bouting, using line and actions off line.

Michelle didn't show and Donna came late, so I didn't have a drill partner; I just did two sets of strips of footwork, trying to make my form correct. My legs are still too weak. I did my yoga stretches in the corner near the mirror. It was cold in the club. I've been having some lower back pain and I think it's probably because of a particular exercise ...

  2. Typical Bout

    by , 12-30-2009 at 01:01 AM
Practice tonight was actually very good. April and I started with bouting to see how things were going and what I needed to work on. We ended up working on distance for the most part. My knees are unfortunately still bothering me, so I had to take a good number of breaks. I'm hoping my legs hold up for 2 tournaments on Sunday. I got a hotel room in Richmond for Saturday night and Sunday night that way I don't have to get up at 04:30 to leave at 05:30, drive 4 hours, fence in 2 tournaments, ...

    by , 12-28-2009 at 06:17 PM (Greybeard's Brain Blog)
Mr. No Point Control. I just did drills and it is the first time I have had a blade in my hand (other than shuffling them around in the closet) since before my latest stroke in October. I did 100 straight lunges and worked on arm first, lunge and yank myself back to the right of the chair rather than leaning over the back and not really retreating.

I also worked a little on the torso to loosen it up to stand the swiveling I have to do in the chair back and forth, etc…

  5. Changes

In an effort to improve my fencing and get back some of that "fire in the belly", I am launching Dare 2010. For those unfamiliar with "Dares", this simply means that I make a public statement that I'm going to do x, y, and z and then keep a public log. [The idea being that everyone will know if I fall on my face and thus I'll have more incentive to do what I said I'll do.]
