  1. Good club

    by , 09-29-2008 at 10:36 PM
No matter how things go, I have to say I have the best club-mates in the world. Jessi1 showed up tonight to give me two bouts even though she was 2nd in the tournament yesterday and even though it's Rosh Hashanah. Kiersten and Donna and Meng were there too, and all fenced me ten-touch bouts and wished me good luck. Between those guys and all the others, they have been working as hard as they could to help me prepare for Vet Worlds and I found myself thinking this morning as I drove in that I'll ...

  2. A league of my own

    by , 09-29-2008 at 06:10 PM (Greybeard's Brain Blog)
There is no way you can ever know what you have done for me by being there and letting me rant. Thank you fencing community for saving my life

Saturday night Robin (spousal unit) and I went out to dinner with a group from the Brain Injury foundation. It was comprised of brain injury survivors and their spouses. You could tell the injury survivors by their drool bibs. We have not laughed that hard in such a long time. I was sitting next to the husband of the Chairman of the foundation ...

  3. Throw out your chocolate!

    by , 09-29-2008 at 10:47 AM

  4. Open sabre

    by , 09-28-2008 at 04:14 PM
Due to the willingness of Chris the foil fencer (who had been in a 5K run the day before and did very well without training) and KidLazy (who passed up an epee tournament to come), we actually had 15 for the open sabre, but because we didn't have enough ratings it was only a D1. Meng thought it was a 3:00 tournament but we called him and woke him up, so he made it in.

I had Kiersten, Nick, Ben, KidLazy, Donna, and Anthony Giunipero from the USNA in my pool. My goal was to lose no ...

  5. Purdue Open

    by , 09-27-2008 at 08:12 PM
I'm back from the Purdue Open and I'm both pleased and annoyed with myself over how I performed.

I had 4 victories and 1 defeat and the defeat really bugs the heck out of me because that was the off-weapon fencer in our pool who was easily defeated by everyone else. I kept hitting my wrist on her blade. I could SO kick myself. This will serve as a reminder that I must never underestimate anyone or go into a bout thinking that I SHOULD win this one.

    I made some small ...
