Week 33 - Fenced epee, still a foilist

Monday nights class ended with an intro to epee and a few bouts. I liked it, but didn’t discover the epeeist within me who finally found an outlet. I’m of course keeping an open mind, and will do more of it, but so far, foil is still my weapon.
Wednesday’s lesson with Coach Jake was quite useful. I finally seem to have gotten the en garde weapon arm position correct. I love footwork under instruction. We worked on my extension, my feint and my lunge. Coach Jake told me to work on getting nice clean hits during my bouts.
I fenced Justin (a kid I‘d yet to fence. He‘s a feisty opponent, a lot of fun.), Eugene, Ciaran, Matthew, and Gabby.
I did pretty well against everyone except Gabby. I scored one touch in 15. If I had remembered to thrust correctly, I could have had a few more. It was quite frustrating for her apparently.
I missed Thursday’s class due to other obligations. I really could have used the Coach Patty workout, but it could not be helped.
Saturday I arrived at the club just slightly too late to get some bouts in with the elite students. I’ll be earlier next week. I had a good workout though. I remembered to keep the upper body relaxed during footwork.
I’m fencing the Div 3 foil tournament next Sunday at FAP. It’s my first electric tournament and I’m pretty damn excited about it.
