  1. I fenced today!

    by , 06-13-2012 at 05:22 PM
I fenced today! I even fenced quite well, taken into consideration that I haven't fenced for months. Two bouts to 15. It felt great. I am terribly out of shape, though. I've seriously got to do something about that during the summer.

I don't remember having been this happy for a long time. It was amazing!

  2. Feeling optimistic

Getting used to my reduced training schedule. First of all I am turning into a pretty decent table tennis player, perhaps I'll keep it up in my limited spare time when I return (like, return for real!) to fencing again. But I am also starting to see the fencing opportunities. I have been taking a few lessons standing up (because flicking from chair is seriously difficult!) with endless variations of arręt, parry, flick. No distance. Just a really speedy arm. Help with finding flats or rooms, ...

So, should have been to the Open in Birmingham but could not go. Took the coaching seminar, which was really, really great, and I got a lot of feedback and inspiration and am very eager to work with my students again, especially my little "star" who has been giving me problems, coaching-wise. I talked a lot of the issues through with the fencing master who was teaching us, and everything is great.

I also did a couple of hours' "teaching" at a refereeing seminar. Funny how the federation ...

  5. Bad news

    by , 04-02-2012 at 08:45 AM
Still not fencing, but the scheduled scan approaches. Feels like my entire life depends on it. This weekend I was told that I am off the team for the Euro Championships bc I have not been able to tell when I expect to be back on the piste. It's fair I guess. Now we can send four fencers who are most likely ready to perform their best. And I don't even know if I'll be fencing at the time. But it's so hard, and although I understand their reasons for doing it, and even agree with their reasons, there ...
