I have not had too much to blog about when it comes to the fencing world. Or the real world for that part. But I felt that I should get some words down before sectionals this weekend. The reason for this is that I am bored, and getting words down will take up some time. Sectionals looks to have turned into a very strong A2 tournament instead of the A4 I think we were all hoping for. This is not the biggest deal for me in the world, but it is always nice to fence in A4s.
There are a lot of fencers I know coming. A lot of them I have beaten, a lot of them I know I can beat, and a lot of them I am hoping I don't see in DEs until the end of the tournament. A realistic goal for this tournament is to make it in to the round of 16, but to be honest with you, I really want to make it into the round of 8. When I started this season I decided the round of 8 at sectionals would be my ultimate goal for the season, I feel if I can have my mind in the right mindset, and get a decent draw out of pool in my favor, it is close to my grasp.
I am feeling very good about my fencing right now because club is going well. We have been doing a lot of constructive bouting. Last night was all about getting ready for this weekend... with an emphasis on getting my mind in the game. After doing the things coach was talking about I felt great on the strip. We talked about making winning not the main goal of a bout, and letting it come on its own. It worked, when I fence coach trying to score a point and prevent him from scoring I fail. When I focused on other things in my fencing, my game improved a lot.
Today I am getting my gear ready, like I finally washed my fencing uniform... Oh it was the most putrid smell. I am making sure all my weapons are ready and the such. Hopefully we will not have any SNAFUs this weekend, but if they occur, my goal is to not let it affect my fencing. Obstacles to overcome. More than anything I want to have fun with my own fencing this weekend. The last two tournaments I did not really enjoy my fencing all that much, this time I want to capture the fire I know is in me to really enjoy my time on the strip. I believe as long as I have my mental game ready to go, that will be my easiest goal this weekend.
Oh and my club is having a tournament on May 10th and 11th. I know some of you who read this are in the NC/SC area, and if you are looking for something to do, come on out and have some fun. We need some new faces. We are including saber for the first time, so if you need to get your saber on come on out. It should be a great time. And I will tell you stories about my time in the ninja lair (maybe.)
Anyways, have a great weekend everyone. I hope to see a lot of people at Sectionals. And happy fencing.
