So tonight at club I had an off night like I have not had in a long time. I had fun in all of our warm ups and drills, but when we got to the fencing I lost every single match that I fenced in. It was incredibly frustrating, and as we all know that is the worst thing that I can have to deal with. After I got knocked out of our mini-tournament I got to ref the rest of the night. I enjoyed it more than being a human target. I don't know if I was just too worn out from our work out or if not fencing at all this weekend had an affect on me, but I was completely off.
I am trying to just see this as a obstacle. There is a tournament at my club this weekend, and I would really like to win it. I am just gonna let tonight slide. While I was frustrated when it was happening, there is nothing I can do but fence better the rest of this week, and this weekend. I also plan on fencing foil. If you know me, then you know that is just weird.
As for this weekend the club had a great showing. The North Carolina Divisional Qualifiers were this weekend and the epee program kicked some ass. I made the trip up to Burlington to watch and help from the sidelines. The epee program is less than a year old but we still managed to have first and second place in the men's epee from our two men competitors and our lone female competitor took home 3rd place. three medals and three qualifications from our three fencers, How great is that? In less than one year we have gained two Bs, a C and a C renewal and a lot of medals. I know that winning isn't everything, that we are working on our skill set and the winning should come on its own. It is just nice to see some of that winning coming around.
The club's foil program also had a great weekend. At divisionals we had the 5th and 9th place finishers. The next day the foil crew drove down to Statesboro, GA and won some more with a 1st, 3rd and 5th place finish. Way to go team! I look forward to next season when I plan on starting foil and working with them. It will be great fun.
So while I did not fence this weekend i had great fun. Met a lot of new people (including two people who claim to be readers of my little life story, hi guys and gals), hung out with some old friends, saw a lot of great fencing , and got some coaching in from the sidelines. It was great fun at the venue, and I got to see a friend from college and drink and throw up in his kids bathroom. You know, because I am awesome like that. Thanks for letting me stay Rodney, please let me do it again when the NC games come around in June.
Anyways that is about it. Wish me luck this weekend with my head game. And if you are in the area come on out to Touche's tournament It should be a n A rated foil event and at least a B in Epee. Happy fencing everyone.
