Well, here it is, the end of the year. I was trying to think of how my year could have been worse, and then I think, “Oh yeah, I could have come home in a box.”

The words “Thank You” don’t even begin to describe what you all have done for me when I felt like giving up, and there were plenty of those times. This time was so much harder than the last time and I am not used to not being able to do what I want. The aphasia and apraxia are killing me softly with their song. Fortunately I have friends and colleagues like you to tell me what I need to hear, even if I don’t want to listen.

Let me try to explain the situation when aphasia and apraxia are acting up. Turn to the person next to you and think of a sentence. Now, think it and try to say it but keep your mouth shut. Next think about raising your hand, think it but don’t do it, because your stupid brain doesn’t know how to send the command to raise your hand. Welcome to my world. Now think back to the life where you played Division 1 NCAA basketball and made presentations all over the world.

OK, I had not intended this to be so maudlin. The main point I want to get across is that I owe you guys my life, thank you and have a great and healthy 2008.
