No, I wasn't on a cheese holiday.(who get's that reference?)
A very nice day. Today I felt almost ready to fence in a tournament. I fenced two weapons, which is a mistake from the get go.
I started with epee and worked out some of the advance retreat issues. Of course, by later in the day I was too tired to move. I got to the point where I knew when an attack was coming and I just watched it happen. They look real pretty, but the wrong light goes off.
I fenced a very good able body in epee and put up a good battle. He won, but I scored a number of touches. We were working on getting me to lean correctly instead of dropping of to the left. Today I had the issue of having the vacancy light blinking on my forehead (I wonder if that is FIE approved?) and suffering the consequences. I was fencing in the “short attention span” tournament.
I just go blank and then suddenly there is a light on, not mine. This is so frustrating. I sit on the floor to change after fencing and just sit there and stare at my stuff laying there and sometimes I don’t know why I am sitting there. I can do this. When I was fencing foil I fenced an able body who I have never beaten, but I had some great parries. Then I just sit there and admire it while he remises. I have to get over this. It is funny, we went to rival high schools in Chicago growing up.
A good day fencing on the way to a great day fencing.
