Who am I? I have a happy little existence with my husband, my large yellow lab & my two kittens. My dog is 100 lbs of bouncy joy. My male cat is addicted to "Greenies", catnip & thinks he's a dog. My female cat looks like a sweet housecat, but is a serial killer.
I took up fencing after I turned 40 & wanted to find a sport that would keep me active and fit into my old age.
I spend my time coaching beginners, training, & working at our vintage autosound business.
Note: Some of my blog entries are only available to my "Blog Buddies". They are either private in nature or about coaching. I make my coaching entries private becuase public entries can be read by the general public. While I never use names, the descriptions of the events can reveal information and I want to respect the privacy of my students. If you would like to be on my list, please PM me and I will add you.

#5,7 and 20: apparently you're not the only ones, :D
This weekend we went to another car show. This one was different for us. We couldn't arrive on time to be a vendor because there was a scheduling conflict with my coaching and set-up. I didn't want to postpone 4 classes, so we decided to just "walk the strip".
To most of you "walking the strip" is taking deep breaths and gathering yourself up on the piste. At car shows, it means we went up and down where the cars were being shown along the beach and talked to folks about our product.
For certain shows, this is way more effective than being in a booth, because car owners typically spend the day "babysitting" their car and "looky-loos" wander about. So we did the strip and talked to car owners. The weather usually tends to be blazing hot, so I for one was grateful for the cloud cover.
Since we couldn't get a babysitter for our dog, he wander about with me... and swam... and swam. Everytime he almost got dry he needed to get wet again.... labs
As we were walking back, a lot of the car owners were partying at the motels along the beach. Some cars were burning rubber and putting on a show for the party goer's. As we went by a group of them, husband jumped on the road and started revving up the wheels of his wheelchair.... Lots of hoots and hollers...
It was very festive... Some people came over to say hi or grab a card from us. While hubby was talking to one of our old customers I chatted with his wife. At one point she asked me my age, when I told her, her friend and her looked shocked. They thought I was 15 years younger than I was.
Then it got funny... Them: "What do you use for a moisturizer?" Me: "Errr... I don't. My husband gave me a really good piece of advice when I was in my late 20's. He told me to stop using soap on my skin. At the time I was having dry and oily areas on my face and had problems with blemishes. When I began just cleaning with water, all those problems went away"
Them: How do you get your foundation & blush off? Me:Laughing "I don't use them. My skin is even and I don't need it clogging my pores."
Them: Oh I could never do that...
It's funny how simple common sense advice that costs you less money than you're spending now, is a harder sell than if I suggested some $50 face cream. People want to keep doing the same thing... trying one product after another. They're funny...
All in all it was a fun weekend. Afterwards, we stayed a friend's place up in the hills. The view was magnificent. Their dog and mine played to the point of exhaustion.
The next day, the dogs were first up and busy playing. I enjoyed the sunrise with my tea on the deck while other awoke. After breakfast, the boys went off on the ATV's while the dogs slept and we chatted and read.
The ride home was quiet, as both my husband and dog were quite tuckered out. Late in the afternoon, my hubby stopped at an ice-cream stand. As we were getting our cones I noticed they had "dog cones". I asked "How much?"
Store Owner: "Oh they're free to any customers who buy a cone for themselves. Is that your dog in the back?" Me: Yeah and he loves ice-cream! Store Owner: "We get so many people stopping on a regular basis now, because they can't pass by without their dog insisting they stop. A lot of people come up to the lake every weekend".
As I walk out of the store, I'm thinking to myself that these people really know how to sell ice-cream.
