Who am I? I have a happy little existence with my husband, my large yellow lab & my two kittens. My dog is 100 lbs of bouncy joy. My male cat is addicted to "Greenies", catnip & thinks he's a dog. My female cat looks like a sweet housecat, but is a serial killer.
I took up fencing after I turned 40 & wanted to find a sport that would keep me active and fit into my old age.
I spend my time coaching beginners, training, & working at our vintage autosound business.
Note: Some of my blog entries are only available to my "Blog Buddies". They are either private in nature or about coaching. I make my coaching entries private because public entries can be read by the general public. While I never use names, the descriptions of the events can reveal information and I want to respect the privacy of my students. If you would like to be on my list, please PM me and I will add you.

After my last entry regarding my diet and the amount of protein I got curious. So I poked around the website where my brother got his copy of the program.
Apparently most people eat too much protein. The limits they have are maximum limits (which I knew). What threw me is that they are so high compared to what I normally eat. This program assumes someone would eat a substantial amount of protein <urrggh!> every meal, especially red meat. This is neither healthy or natural, but common.
Being vegan for so many years, I've got in a habit of adding a little protein in every meal, but it tends to be plant based.... things like adding a handful of nuts to my salad or tofu in my smoothie. Or a small piece of cheese with an apple.
When I introduced meat to my diet I couldn't handle the high fat content of most meats, so I tend to eat game meats, fish and poultry if I make a more traditional meal. Another way to put it is I am more comfortable with Asian food when it comes to the proportions of meat in a meal than I am with many North American meals.
The thing is this healthier eating looked wrong when this diet program graphs out my intake. Most days I used up about 1/2 of my protein allotment, and all (or more than) my allotment for carbs. After talking to my doctor, I might just tweak the percentages a little.
Overall.... I feel great. I don't feel like I'm overeating, neither do I feel like I'm starving myself. I like having an excuse to get out every day and move around. Both the dog and I are getting in good shape.... which is good. Next month we're going camping and the extra exercise he does there makes him ache a bit for the first day or two.
Speaking of which... I need to work out with some weights. The first few days hurt me too.... taking down trees, hauling wood, water, setting up camp....
