Who am I? I have a happy little existence with my husband, my large yellow lab & my two kittens. My dog is 100 lbs of bouncy joy. My male cat is addicted to "Greenies", catnip & thinks he's a dog. My female cat looks like a sweet housecat, but is a serial killer.
I took up fencing after I turned 40 & wanted to find a sport that would keep me active and fit into my old age.
I spend my time coaching beginners, training, & working at our vintage autosound business.
Note: Some of my blog entries are only available to my "Blog Buddies". They are either private in nature or about coaching. I make my coaching entries private because public entries can be read by the general public. While I never use names, the descriptions of the events can reveal information and I want to respect the privacy of my students. If you would like to be on my list, please PM me and I will add you.

I started my day thinking I'll put the moose roast in the crock pot early in the morning so it'll be ready for my husband for dinner (while I'm at fencing). I have 3 classes tonight and won't be home until after 10 pm.
As I was taking it out of the cupboard, I dropped the ceramic interior pot. So I e-mailed the manufacturer to see if I can get a replacement. If not, with Christmas coming it's quite likely I'll find another one on sale.
So I put the roast in the cast iron dutch oven & popp

After breaking camp up north we hit another weather system, another downpour of rain, thunder, lightening.... then clear skies again and a chance to towel off the dog in the back of the truck. He had protection from the rain, but being a lab, getting wet is... well his thing. Besides... how on earth do you look at the scenery if you don't get your nose over the sides of the truck and take it all in?
The rain was good, but the lightening was worrisome. This year has been BC worse summer for w

As mentioned in previous years the area we camp in is about to become one of the largest pit mines in the world. Dropping into this area for 2 weeks once a year, has given us a unique opportunity to watch this develop. One of the things we noticed this time is the mounting hostilities between both sides.
Here’s a bit of history as I see it…
BC became part of Canada after many of the other Provinces and after treaties have been reached with their native populations. So first off, BC neve

Prior to going to our usual camp we went up north gold panning. This is a spot we have never been before. There are 4 of us, my husband, two Europeans & I. We were initially a group of 7, but this story begins the second day at this camp after the other 3 moved on. Gold Panning- Part one is a private entry that is written prior to this one. If you're a blog buddy you should see it.
We decided to stay a few more days & look for gold before continuing on to our usual camp. I didn't bother to se

Since it's been a week since returning from the bush, I thought I should start blogging my stories. The first is about our cats while we were away.
Not liking you is YOUR problem, not mine.
While we were away, we had a neighbour drop by to look after our two cats. Our male cat Charlie, is gregarious and friendly but not to strangers. Usually it takes him 2-4 days to get used to a new person in the house. He is addicted to cat treats, so opening the bag will usually get him running towards

In a typical touchy-feely decision my Credit Union decided to not have a clause that allows it to make certain changes to our mortgage & loans without our consent so long as they provide adequate notice of the change. EVERY bank & credit union has this clause... except ours. How thoughtful of them.
Recently the banks got permission from the bank of Canada to alter all loans and mortgages by a percentage point or two because <GASP> they weren't making enough money due to the record low Bank

Just got back from my niece's wedding. It was on the same day and a few miles SE from where my husband & I tied the knot 11 years ago.
Like our wedding, the weather played a role in the days events. For us, lighting took the steeple off of the church 2 weeks prior. This was quickly repaired so we were able to take our vows protected from the hot prairie sun. Rain arrived just in time for the reception before returning back sunshine after dinner. The night sky favoured us with a wonderful Nor

You fencers are all alike... I know you're expecting some exciting entry about some tournament where I get a nice shiny piece of jewellery... move along... this isn't that type of entry.
Nah, I'm talking about real gold... the kind you dig in the dirt for... gravel actually. Over the last week, hubby and his old buddy have been spending hours and hours over the phone while both are on Google Earth discussing their next gold panning adventure. They both did it in their youth and have decided

After my last entry regarding my diet and the amount of protein I got curious. So I poked around the website where my brother got his copy of the program.
Apparently most people eat too much protein. The limits they have are maximum limits (which I knew). What threw me is that they are so high compared to what I normally eat. This program assumes someone would eat a substantial amount of protein <urrggh!> every meal, especially red meat. This is neither healthy or natural, but common.
