Who am I? I have a happy little existence with my husband, my large yellow lab & my two kittens. My dog is 100 lbs of bouncy joy. My male cat is addicted to "Greenies", catnip & thinks he's a dog. My female cat looks like a sweet housecat, but is a serial killer.
I took up fencing after I turned 40 & wanted to find a sport that would keep me active and fit into my old age.
I spend my time coaching beginners, training, & working at our vintage autosound business.

For the last two weeks I've been trying to get my fencers to use their feet. To vary the speed, and size of their footsteps. To really play with all the different possibilities.

Oddly enough, it's my young, new fencers who are taking to this the most and putting it to action in their fencing. One little girl in my beginner's sabre class was doing such a good job in beating the boys with her footwork that I briefly considered sending her over to the strip where I had the experienced fencers, ...More Read More

How things change.... when I first met my husband one of the things that made me uncomfortable was his habit of inviting complete strangers for dinner or to stay at our place. Homeless people he found interesting, folks travelling... all got a least a dinner invite. Fast forward 2 decades later... I am thrilled that we have a penniless traveller staying at our house right now.

Let me explain. Last year while camping we met a couple Swiss guys... I claim they stole our boat, they claim that ...More Read More

I was watching "The Hour" on CBC (Canadian TV) late the other night and George had an interesting guest on. Yugoslavian journalist and author of the book "McMafia", Misha Glenny. http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows/The_Hour/ID=1328690659

His book discusses organized crime around the world. What struck me as funny (in an odd way) was that there was a whole chapter dedicated to discussing BC. Yeah... okay I recognize that BC is rather famous for marijuana, but what surprised me was a piece of conv ...More Read More

I started my day thinking I'll put the moose roast in the crock pot early in the morning so it'll be ready for my husband for dinner (while I'm at fencing). I have 3 classes tonight and won't be home until after 10 pm.

As I was taking it out of the cupboard, I dropped the ceramic interior pot. So I e-mailed the manufacturer to see if I can get a replacement. If not, with Christmas coming it's quite likely I'll find another one on sale.

So I put the roast in the cast iron dutch oven & popp ...More Read More

After breaking camp up north we hit another weather system, another downpour of rain, thunder, lightening.... then clear skies again and a chance to towel off the dog in the back of the truck. He had protection from the rain, but being a lab, getting wet is... well his thing. Besides... how on earth do you look at the scenery if you don't get your nose over the sides of the truck and take it all in?

The rain was good, but the lightening was worrisome. This year has been BC worse summer for w ...More Read More

As mentioned in previous years the area we camp in is about to become one of the largest pit mines in the world. Dropping into this area for 2 weeks once a year, has given us a unique opportunity to watch this develop. One of the things we noticed this time is the mounting hostilities between both sides.

Here’s a bit of history as I see it…

BC became part of Canada after many of the other Provinces and after treaties have been reached with their native populations. So first off, BC neve ...More Read More

Prior to going to our usual camp we went up north gold panning. This is a spot we have never been before. There are 4 of us, my husband, two Europeans & I. We were initially a group of 7, but this story begins the second day at this camp after the other 3 moved on. Gold Panning- Part one is a private entry that is written prior to this one. If you're a blog buddy you should see it.

We decided to stay a few more days & look for gold before continuing on to our usual camp. I didn't bother to se ...More Read More

Since it's been a week since returning from the bush, I thought I should start blogging my stories. The first is about our cats while we were away.

Not liking you is YOUR problem, not mine.

While we were away, we had a neighbour drop by to look after our two cats. Our male cat Charlie, is gregarious and friendly but not to strangers. Usually it takes him 2-4 days to get used to a new person in the house. He is addicted to cat treats, so opening the bag will usually get him running towards ...More Read More

In a typical touchy-feely decision my Credit Union decided to not have a clause that allows it to make certain changes to our mortgage & loans without our consent so long as they provide adequate notice of the change. EVERY bank & credit union has this clause... except ours. How thoughtful of them.

Recently the banks got permission from the bank of Canada to alter all loans and mortgages by a percentage point or two because <GASP> they weren't making enough money due to the record low Bank ...More Read More
