So here goes.
Putting it back together again. You always feel it most where there are missing pieces. Hit the track. In movement as well as personnel. We got back Royal, Tuna, and Lucky. I made them an offer. F is back from Paris. T is still in the outre-mer. We did a demo at the sporting goods store with the new ludo-escrime equipment. Getting Tuna and Lucky to compete will mean me spending a weekend traveling with them. Not sure I can afford the time or money to do so. The downside of a subsidized club where the coaches are on payroll--it's a trick to qualify as a coach. The goodness of my heart, then. The Heavy Metal group is coming together. We got our regional dates yesterday. Lots of very young kids in for what D calls "baby escrime." Rumblings in the front office. Hitting the weights and running fast. Only Royal (and myself) bothered to train this summer. L, the only honest épéeist of the bunch, always hangs me out to dry at the beginning of the year when my preparation is too visible. The deal is I'll give lessons to those who are preparing for a competition. Have to remember beer for the Heavy Metal group this Friday. Have taught the drills to F. Have to be careful about becoming a club within a club but maybe this will make them work a little harder. Have to remember to ask M for his tripod so that we can film. Have to make a few changes in the drills and translate them again. A lot of time gets saved by making good documents. Hollow is the way I would describe my body. My presence is filling in for some other lack. Sometimes I find a little moment and simply walk past my opponent's point. H very busy in the armory already. This moment is not something that can be planned. Breaking it down again. It's the only way. Half advance, return to guard. advance. Keep the armory door closed. Half retreat, return to guard, jump forward. Now back. Getting back toward being invisible.
It's an odd start to the season; this is the way the season always starts.
