I made it a point to walk as much as I could, despite having a loaded metro card. Being the soft southerner I am, my feet HATED me for three days, but things improved thereafter. I decided that I would never want to live in NYC. Sorry guys, I know you produce wonderful things, like metrosexual/well-dressed VERY attractive gay men/olympic fencers/revenue via museums, etc. BUT I CANNOT STAND IT.
The difference between the metro there and when I lived in Seoul, is that since Korea is a smaller country, the MTA seems sprawled in comparison. That and it seems that everyone is grumpy. I take that back. Not seems, IS grumpy, angry, upset. People insist on being blind to other people's predicaments in traffic. Some are self-inflicted, but if intelligence garners no help to a situation, stop honking, yelling, being rude. Everything is impersonal, dehumanizing, diffident. We were all cows to be processed in everything. Wait in line for everything. Selfish for everything. Instant gratification for everything.
I blame ourselves. It's a consequence of modernizing into small confines of living quarters and communal areas.

I just recently watched a woman address another, " What kind of animal eats on the subway?" I guess the smell of spaghetti offended her. What ensued was a one-way food fight as the woman armed her meal as a grenade of sorts. Here's the problem: 1) NYers are famous for eating on the run. Everyone is busy! 2) You don't get someone to stop eating their (supposedly offensive smelling) food by calling her an "animal." 3) We are animals. Cheers to us.

Home is where the heart is as they say.

P.S. If you're ever in need of silk, check out the garment district. It's between 37th-40th ish from 10th to 7th avenue. Cheap prices tell me it's probably Chinese, but hey, it's decent.
