through the cracks. The kids who we just gloss over and hope that the graduation or the environment of a club, their parents, the security officer will take of the problem. Attrition, anyone?
The cost of teaching to the "middle".
Today, one of my students said, " If you hadn't moved that girl who sat across me to the honors class, I would be sitting here copying her history homework."
I was told I was not allowed to show any movies that were PG-13....to my senior honors class which discusse ...More Read More

Look what I get after taxes!
I am "owed" a job because the economy is terrible!
Teachers are paid for 37 hours of work a week. HAHAHAHA!

Sounds just like when the Chinese immigrants first came to America to build railroads and despite having to work under American hours, they were paid Chinese hours (twice the work, half the pay).

I was literally thrown under the Magic School Bus. No one did any briefing, introduction, orientation. It was, "here is your classroom, go teach!" I probably ...More Read More

I dropped a heavy deposit so I could play super senior with a part-time job at the hospital.
Schools I had driven four hours for a thirty minute interview didn't want me. I drove over to my old high school so I could keep a transcript and immunization for records/EMT classes. I spoke with my old chem teacher from over six years ago (he still remembered me....I must have been a stellar student....no.) and he told me the first week of school would be the most chaotic in terms of hiring teachers ...More Read More

I never really got into Star Trek...or Shatner beyond the priceline pitch on TV.
But hey, the beat for this is awesome.

Renovating the basement for the past week....no time for fencing.

Stripped the ceiling, plastered and resanded everything at least three times, just finished coating the ceiling the primer and paint. At least it was a good learning experience for the amateur. My neck and shoulders definitely have been getting a good work. It' ...More Read More

My cousin weighs MAYBE 72 lbs at 14, maybe about 5'4"? Doctors found protein and sugar in her urine. While female bodies absorb calcium until 24-25 years of age, I'm afraid she's already missed most of her critical window for growth. Putting sunscreen on her back was sad, scary. I can already see her slipping and breaking something at a very young age. She didn't understand why I made her eat egg yolks at breakfast. I wonder how they teach nutrition over there.
I only had two days to teach her ...More Read More

Brilliant news everyone, eskimo diet/low-carbing works very well for anyone who's within their 10-20 lb ideal weight range. That being said, I was miserable. I can't tell you how many times I wrote hate letters to the Mr. Atkins who looks very much like the Colonel of KFC. Watching for the cholesterol on the dairy was annoying.
And now it's time to cycle back on it. I gained 3 pounds back within a week when I was at the beach. I'll be listening to the Dutchess and her songs about "Workin' on m ...More Read More

I used to be able to do full splits...both ways. I took it for granted then one day I tried to do and it was not so good. My mother's more flexible than I am now; it's the yoga.

Saw some pictures of myself at the camp and oh boy, my back knee is turned in more than I was aware of. It happens a lot more when I'm tired. I'm not sure if it's something I want to change completely, especially since the calcaneofibular ligament ( think of the crescent shaped padding surrounding your outer ankle bo ...More Read More

On an nearly any given atlas, my location is only a couple inches, maybe a few from any decent tournament. INCHES translated to miles is a tragedy. No Mr. Potato Head for me this year.

Rewatched a few sabre bouts on the boobtoobe and I just wanted to ask Mr. Montano how many gold chains he wears and if he'd advise the typical Italian man to wear? BLING!

Got hired to teach a camp. In return, my floor fees and lessons are paid up through the rest of the year. All I need are some gal pals, g ...More Read More

I will do things for chocolate and rice cakes that money won't do. Must be the instant gratification. Anyway, I had my body fat % measured and I nearly cried. Mostly because I had really let myself slip senior year. Nearly a quarter of my body was fat! AHHHHH! Trying to get that down to 13%. Apparently trying to get it much lower than that must is burning your woman fat which is harder to do.

SACRIFICE! I usually think of the smell of cauterized flesh, and the burned fat running down the sid ...More Read More

I was at Panera recently and said hi to one of my students. It was an awkward surprise look. Hey! I'm young and enthused! Just because I was her teacher doesn't mean I don't have a life or don't partake in normal activities such as consumerism.
It brings me back to the point that for some reason, I thought all my teachers had no lives in high school. Two parts to this: the really good ones spent a lot of their personal time coming up with really good lesson plans (and I guarantee those are lik ...More Read More
