Holy Heck have I been busy lately...
Basically, every sense returning back to GMU from JOs, I have been doing work non-stop. I have had a bunch of exams, a couple papers, and I have another paper due tomorrow. I don't even know what about. Early 20th century censorship of movies. Or something like that...
I have been so fried and busy. Its killin me. I feel like almost every day my roommate is saying "hey, we're going to dinner, you coming?" or "Hey, Im off to hang out with the girls, you wanna come?" and I always have the same answer: "Can't, too much work to do, and have to get up early tomorrow." I hate sacrificing a social life outside of my girlfriend, but its my only choice. Fencing is taking up alot more of my time, now that we're practicing twice a week, and my classes are all really hard. Im trying to get into a top 10 law school which means I need grades >3.5. All this studying is taking its toll though.
Im finding myself drifting off in classes. Not to sleep, I am just losing focus. Its like my classes are my only time to relax and not have to be proactive. I went through basically my whole Constitutional Law class yesterday without taking a single note. I just couldn't focus on it.
I was planning on taking this past weekend off from anything fencing, cuz I wanted a break after JOs. Although, they needed some more sabre fencers for the sabre open down in Richmond, so I was able to borrow some gear and get a ride down there. I reffed a pool of foil in the morning so they gave me lunch and my sabre entry fee. I enjoyed it. It was my first sabre event. Went 2-4 in pools (should have been 3-3) won my first DE and lost my second. Il take that. It was worth the trip. Then I had Sunday off, but me and my girlfriend went and visited her grandmother. It was ok, although it was a little more than I wanted to do that day.
This weekend Im reffing an RYC. Its like 15 minutes away; It will be nice. I always enjoy reffing the youth stuff. Most people I know hate reffing it, but not me. I enjoy it, because I can have some fun. I can enforce the rules but not be a jackass about them, and make sure everyone has a good time, and learns. (Which is the primary focus of alot of these RYCs.) I reffed alot of youth over the summer and I have a fair amount of experience with it. I also like being able to help the parents understand whats going on. It'll also be nice going in to the event knowing there isn't a bout that will happen that Im not 100% comfortable with. I think the last RYC I reffed, I did like 3 or 4 gold medals, all without problem. Also, I need the money.
Then next week I have a few exams, then I'll be off to Chicago for 4 days of reffing. I feel really good going into Chicago. Im not nearly as nervous as I was before Tucson this year. And it'll be nice seeing my friends from NJ there. I'm hoping that I'l get to ref alot of the vet events. So many of the vet fencers are a joy to ref, because they are all there to have fun, and they realize it.
Well, thats about it for me. I'll see you guys later...
Thanks for reading.
