And for a completely different topic:

I finally made my nephrologist appointment, having acquired one for July in my little town. I have put it off for a couple of months, probably through motivated forgetfulness. Anyway, and the sad part is, Dr. K, whom I suspected of being God last summer, is no longer serving in my town. He is starting a new program at one of the Big City clinics two driving hours from here. And nobody told me, so I feel a bit abandoned right now. A nephrologist-patient ...

The epee introduction to the students was fun...some of them still have the parry-4 as a default reflex to an attack, but I spent time working with them individually on circular parries with opposition as well as binds and counterattacks. For starters, I suggested that they defend themselves first with the point, then distance, the bell guard, then a parry. After that in bouting they were to mix up their reactions unpredictably. This is a great group of people, and they are all working hard at learning the art and sport. This winter was terrible, with high winds and record amounts of rain. The combination of the two was quite painful at times. I was archaeological monitor for a project at a State Park, and they wanted the construction carried out in their off-season, so it had to be done during the winter.

    I've ...

Today was the first day of fencing class for fall term, and there were 7 students there. I'll see on Thursday if there are enough (10) for the class to be held by the college...they're touchy about minimum numbers. The odd thing was that the instructor wasn't present...I got a call before I got out of bed this morning about an emergency at work. Not my present job, but the previous one, and I ended up spending the entire day doing pro bono archaeological consulting, being a resource and advice-giver, ...
