Just short of my two-month kidney-versary, and my recovery is still going well. I have been able to discontinue two drugs, with another scheduled for next week. I still take about 22 tablets and capsules every day, but compared to dying, it's really no hassle. That's still fewer than before the transplant, when I just had End Stage Renal Disease.
I started swimming as soon as my incisions fully healed, and I'm up to 700 yards (640 meters) three times a week and I love it.
I also began footwork last week, and I can do ten minutes a day. I know,it doesn't sound like much, but I was pretty close to dead two months ago so I view it as meaningful. And I'm looking forward to actually stabbing students in a month or so.
The doctors and I discussed fencing, and it turns out my new/used kidney is behind my abdominal muscles. There should be no need for a protective shield, and my doc says if they're hitting hard enough to damage the organ, I need to work on distance. Good advice. Next he'll be telling me to bend my knees more.
