So, once again, I've been negligent. I haven't written an entry in over a month. In my defense, I have been pretty busy. Not entirely because of fencing, though. I'm working part time with ABC, doing the Good Morning America concerts among other things. This Friday/Saturday I'm setting up for a show from the Statue of Liberty, as a matter of fact I'll be working Saturday morning, then catching a couple hours sleep before heading to the airport to leave for nationals.
So, I've been a little negligent with those promises I made to myself in my last entry. Because of work I've been forced to miss Thursday practice, though I did get in early on Thursdays to take lessons. And I've been in no condition to fence at MFC on Fridays, though I did stay and practice at the NYAC on Friday instead. I have been good with going to FC on Mondays and NYAC on Tuesday/Friday/Saturday. Oh, and I couldn't find enough time to get to the gym on a regular basis, only managed a workout here and there.
But... I'm feeling good. I just got back from a practice at FC, and I was fencing very well. I have two more practices left before I head off to Texas and I don't feel like I'm completely unprepared. I think that Div I will be a good event for me, and it's especially helpful that Ben/Tim/James/Jason won't be there. It's unfortunate that the strength factor has been set so low, but I'm not even thinking about that. Just going to go and fence my hardest, and ideally make top 8.
Sr. Team will be interesting. It's the first year ever that the NYAC will be fielding two sabre teams. There's a ton of teams signed up, and I think that both our teams will be pretty strong. Is taking home two medals a possibility? Honestly I have no idea, it's going to depend heavily on how everyone is seeded going in. I'm pretty excited about this event though.
Finally, there's Div IA. I fenced this event two years ago as a favorite to medal (at least according to FNet) and completely underperformed. This time around, it's going to be different. I think I'm fencing at an entirely different level than I was back then. Of course it all depends on what draws I get going into the 16/8/4. I'm looking forward to it. It's also the last event for me. That could mean two things: 1) I'm relaxed and have gotten rid of all the competition jitters in my previous two events, or 2) I'm worn out and can't wait to get home. My mindset by that day will probably heavily determine how I do. I'm sure that doing well in D1/Team will help.
Exactly one week until the first event. I'm ready to go!
