Fencing Journal Entry #1

To begin, I don't know where I'm going with these journal entries. I have no idea who will read them, if I'm writing them for my readers or myself, or anything else. This is more just stream of consciousness so I can write into my little book of "stuff to work on" and actually work on it.
That said, I went back to fencing today for the first time in a few weeks. I fenced a little while in Spain, there was a small Epee club with some decent fencers. I think the best fencer there would have been rated a C here. I learned some things.
Fencing again today in my own little club (in my nice hidden niche of the world). I have the following comments:
My point control was O.K.
My distance and timing were O.K.
I still have a hard time dealing with inquartata (the fencing action, not the poster here on f.net)
My engarde stance was horrible.
I need to really condition my quadriceps, as much as I hate to say it. I used to be all cocky and thought that they were muscled enough from usage, but the fact is that I've been out of fencing, practice and shape for so long that I haven't used them enough.......
I'll just admit it here. I'm out of shape.
I did get commented that I can "recover quickly" so I guess my hand speed is faster than I think it is. So that's one good thing.
All in all, I have a lot of ground to cover this summer, and it feels like most of its going to be that lovely little C-word. Calisthenics.
