  1. Indecision? Second Guessing? Simply Tired?

    by , 03-03-2010 at 10:28 PM
I'm following the thread about what makes a fencing coach with a certain amount of interest (aren't we all?). Fascinating how one person's rather bone-headed arguments can lead to a very productive conversation. I'm struck by the recent suggestion that young up-and-coming coaches should serve something resembling a journeyman period out in the hinterlands to spread decent fencing in the wilderness.

I have spent the last year and a half looking forward to getting the hell out of ...

Something about the weather change - moist air, warmer temperatures, I don't know what - has set off my allergic bronchitis, and my chest is making singing noises in eight-part harmony. My bronchia are so congested and swollen that when I breathe out, I can pump air out for a good minute and a half before I stop making squeaking noises.

I have been getting to fencing around 7:15 lately because I don't get out of work until after 5:00, but it's working out all right even though I don't ...

  3. Super slow motion

I was in super slow motion yesterday and didn't really feel like leaving the house, but forced my ass off the recliner and into the Y for practice. April asked what I wanted to do. I just shrugged and said, "Dunno...what do you want to do?" She said we'd just bout. Apparently everyone was in the same "funk" that I was. Cari owed me a foil bout since I haven't gotten to fence her since...uh...since she dislocated the PIP joint on my right pinky finger. lol...that's been ...

    Distance...

I often play a trick on fencers when I'm giving them a clinic or instruction for the first time. Standing relatively close to them while we are in on guard, I'll ask: "How far away am I?" Invariably, the fencer will look down at the positions of our front feet visually measure the distance between them, and then answer with that distance.

After their answer, I'll extend and my point will be very close to their chest, producing a wry grin from the ...

    I'm not really back.

But I did want to mention that I lost 12 pounds. Down to 199.

Soon I will be at comfortable fencing weight. I did the Atkins Induction Phase diet and its working beautifully. No carbs. Nada. 1 week now and 12 lbs lost.

The next 10 will be easy I think.
