  1. Taking advice.

    by , 05-22-2009 at 10:56 AM
I used a neti pot for the last two days and I have to say I like it. It's horribly gross which of course appeals to me in much the same way collecting Garbage Pail kids did in 2nd Grade did.

I have a minor sinus infection or at least some swelling. So I was prescribed Medrol(methyl prednisolone) and Augmentin.

I know women hate antibiotics but for us guys Augmentin works like a charm. but what REALLY works is the Medrol.

Wow I feel great. My ribs dont hurt, ...

  2. even warmer

    by , 05-20-2009 at 10:51 PM
Sabre Khan on Sunday was a blast. I didn't do well--won only two of my six bouts in the pool--and had funny couple of DE's, the first against tall Anton from our club, which I won 15-5, and the second against Andrew Hull, which I lost 5-15. I enjoyed fencing Andrew, but unfortunately the athleticism I had to use in the bout hurt my hip something fierce and I was saying "Ow ow ow ow ow" all the way back to the on-guard line. Andrew said he felt bad he was hurting me and I had to explain ...

  3. Vet Sabre Camp

    by , 05-20-2009 at 12:40 PM
I'm heading to NJ Friday morning at o-dark-thirty and I'm trying to pack everything in advance in preparation for the Vet Sabre camp.

Thus far, I've got everything except the last minute stuff (toothpaste, comb, etc.) in a 40 gal. rubbermaid container. It's in the kitchen, ready to go into the car.

Tonight, I'll put the container and my fencing bag into the car, add the competition stuff (good jacket, lame, and knickers), and then I'll make a final check Thursday night ...

  4. That damn off-weapon arm

    by , 05-19-2009 at 07:51 AM
I was revieiwng personal fencing video footage and noticed several problems I need to correct. One that is trivial but should be easy to fence (she says optomistically) is that my off-weapon arm hangs by my side like I'm a rag doll and swings back and forth as I move.

As I said, there are many things that I need to correct but this strikes me as just... well... stupid. The more exhausted I become, the more that arm swings back and forth and I've gotten my hand smacked enough times ...

  5. Hungarian Tempo

    by , 05-18-2009 at 02:50 PM
My coach made reference to hand-tempo, foot-tempo, and psycho-tempo. Understanding these have helped cue me when to attack. This is really really important, and forcing the best blade and footwork into an inappropriate tempo is a huge disservice to yourself. Even if you have awesome blade control, attacking at the wrong time makes feinting and deceiving SO much harder.

Simply, going at the right hand tempo means acting when the opponents hand is not ready to deal with your action, going ...
