    And I mean more than should I fence epee or foil. I finally got to the club last night which was an adventure in itself. We had my chair at home so pull the wheels, load them and the frame in the car (quick release axels) then my gym bag with a change of clothes and my fencing kit. (why did I not just put my change of clothes in my fencing kit? Why I don’t want my work clothes in a bag with all kinds of sweaty things says I. I have one of those “locker” backs in which I prefer to store my clothes. ...

    One thing that i always find awkward is talking with parents of children competing in the same thing I'm competing in. This is not so bad if their child is doing better than me, because usually the parents are in a good mood and very gracious. They encourage me to keep going (for either sports, academics, job) try hard, and things are pretty pleasant. When i'm doing better than their kid? There is always some justification about their child's performance, or they get fairly defensive. They steer ...

  3. The Secret to (Their) Success

    Over the years, I’ve interacted with a lot of coaches and talked to them about their clubs. I’ve been curious how successful clubs structure themselves and when I find successful clubs, I try to talk to the coaches to see what they are doing.

    I’m not near a permanent answer yet, but over the years, I’ve notices some interesting points of intersection:
