  1. GLS

    by , 04-19-2009 at 07:13 PM
I finished 2nd out of 5 for the GLS.

In my first bout, I lost to Claire Lee, partially because I just couldn't get the timing right and partially because she has one heck of a good parry. She's a newer fencer so I was very annoyed with myself over this one.

The second bout was against Allyson, with whom I've been trading back-and-forths for a while and this time I won, 5-1, using a technique that we'd worked on at the last practice. In a nutshell, I had stopped doing ...

  2. Liberty Cup

    by , 04-19-2009 at 06:03 PM
Although I have quite a load of essays to grade, I took the train to NYC for the Liberty Cup anyway; I've graded one section of essays, and will have to work doubletime to catch up, but it was pretty much worth the trip,

I was seeded tenth (My B'08 was after all the other B'08s) and had a good pool--Tiki Kastor, Sarah Pak, Debbie Moore, Mary Regan, and Tanya Dainoski. I haven't fenced Tanya in ages; she's at St. John's now. Since the last time I saw Sarah, she has grown about four ...

  3. How is something so simple so hard to do?

    by , 04-19-2009 at 12:10 PM (Greybeard's Brain Blog)
I got to fence yesterday. For a week and weekend that started out so crappy, it was such a breath of fresh air (in a club?) to get into my chair and spend 3 hours working out.

I have to credit Scot for his patience and sense of humor for having to make me relearn things every time. Unfortunately due to my apraxia I can see the set up (which is very good) and just watch it slide in right where I thought it was going to hit me. Then all I can say is “It looked real pretty.” Nuts. ...

  4. Detox 47/9, my new tattoo, and roller girls

Living without M&Ms is easy in comparison to living without caffeine. Then again, I have another incentive. The bottom of my tongue has a large white area that hurts like heck and the outer part of the tongue doesn't feel great either. My laymans diagnosis: Canker sore.

On the plus side, I'm now down to 1 pound over my optimum weight (by my definition). On the negative side, my face looks like it belong in a movie about the undead. Just why is it that when *I* lose weight, ...

  5. Succintly Mooching

So I quote the words of others, because their articulated thoughts are a better representation of how I feel. Amazing!

Below is a recent, but not new song that came out a while back:

This wasn't the original video to their single, which was released a few years before this one. Either way, I like the art.
