  1. Not April 1st

I have zero chance of making the WSV50 team but a sllight chance (very slight) of still finishing well enough at the SN to be an alternate.

Or rather... I did. I may not be able to participate.

This is NOT an April Fools Day joke.

Once again, my employer has drawn a bullseye around my vacation and fired shots at it.

There are certain events which involve contracts with subcontractors who perform work that requires someone in my position to be ...

  2. May Your Turtle Eat Flowers of the Cherry

It was nice to see everyone up at the CBO this year. And by nice I mean it was nice to have connections back to showers after Sunday and a decent departure time from the venue.

Having fenced both events, the dichotomy of WS and MS was a good comparison. One of the last non-collegiate tournaments I went to had the women fencing both events on both days and that was a tragedy. I don't think I'll do that again.
One of the mistakes I made on Sunday was not utilizing my height or ...

  3. Cranking through

I still felt under the weather today, but decided to at least go and take a lesson. As it turned out, Mark wasn't there. However, we had a full complement of sabre fencers--Dawn, Jessi1, Kiersten, Bob, Dave Mandell, Mike Kolodner, Meng, and Donna. I fenced everyone except Dave, including Mike twice. Dave commented that he was watching me fence Mike and thought my legs were incredibly strong. I was startled at that and said I didn't feel that way, but perhaps that's some of what got me through ...

  4. Elbow In

    ELBOW INNNNN

Even if it kills me. Even if it's after the 2nd parry with disengage, remember to keep the elbow in. IN. KEEP IT IN.

Always keep balanced for face ripostes. There's no use for a slow riposte. Only way to get a faster riposte is to have fast hands, and to deliver those hands to the right distance with your legs.

The hand scores. The feet help the hand to score. The hand owes it to the feet to score after all that hard work setting up the right distances. ...

  5. Cherry Blossom

    by , 03-30-2009 at 01:01 PM
I reffed Cherry Blossom all weekend. It was a pretty good time. Saturday was great. A little epee through the, then I moved over to womens sabre. I had asked the assignor if it would be possible to get observed in sabre, so he assigned me a pool with Oiuyt. Awesome experience! I reffed the whole pool, except the bouts of 1 fencer who I was a conflict with. I then went into the DE table, and did bouts all the way up including a semi. Oiuyt had some very helpful comments about some things ...
