Wednesday night practice was much better. For one thing, I found my plastron hung up, so now I'm just missing my extra jacket. Also, we had a few more fencers and there was some better fencing going on. It was quite a good crowd for a little while, though many left before I had a chance to fence them. I fenced Tony, Dave, Donna, Meng, Mike, and someone else, I forget whom. Dave and Mike beat me and so did the person I can't remember. This is what I get for writing in my journal a day later. ...
I've been spending some time lately thinking about how fencers perceive referees. I'm specifically thinking about how fencers perceive the "good" refs vs. the bad refs. I know plenty of fencers that hate the refereeing of certain FOC or high level refs. If a fencer has absolutely no idea who a referee is, I'm wondering what makes them think that ref is "good." I'm thinking the criteria vary significantly between fencer, and they are definitely not the same criteria ...
