  1. Shopping: a female rite

    by , 06-21-2008 at 02:33 PM
Only women like to shop, they say. As for me? Not so much. Never liked it. I need to be forced to buy things for myself most of the time, like when my undergarments have lost all elasticity, or my bathing suit is falling off me, or the formerly-waterproof shell jacket is now more sponge than water-resistant. Meanwhile, many of my female friends indulge in what they call "grudge shopping." Husband was nasty to you? Whip out that Visa card and go wild! Kids were difficult this week? Hit ...

  2. Swelling

    by , 06-21-2008 at 08:33 AM
I don't know what the heck I did wrong, but now my entire body is swollen. In addition to my knee deciding to swell so badly that I cannot bend or straighten it, my fingers are swollen. The last time this happend, I'd eaten an entire bag of potato chips so I could easily trace the source of the problem to diet. Today, I haven't a clue why I'm swelling up like the girl in the Charlie Wonka factory. I HAVE eaten some blueberries, but I've not turned blue. Yet.

    I've been drinking ...

  3. 3 down... one to go (or, pass)

    by , 06-20-2008 at 11:40 AM
I passed the general section of the referee exam without any trouble. Got a few wrong, and at least one of those was a truly stupid mistake. That'll learn me to not read the questions in their entirety. And whatever I didn't nail on the head? That means I need to re-do the practice exam until I can answer everything effortlessly. Yes, I'm obsessing over the fact that I blew some easy questions and misinterpreted some rules, not the fact that I actually passed the exam. Welcome to my world. I hate ...

This afternoon I am interviewing for a position on the board of the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation.

I think it is time I started to try to give back and I think that this will also do mea ton of good. I actually should have been in contact with them a lot sooner. Take a look at their website www.sdbif.com

I mean look at some of the speaker series programs they have planned for later this year.

  5. Lesson

    by , 06-19-2008 at 09:58 PM
Last night, I thought I was doing a little better on reading the opponent's actions and responding. Tonight, I had a lesson with the coach and it became immediately obvious that I was still lagging far behind everyone else.

I also have a minor setback: My knee is swollen and I feel shooting pains down the back of the leg.

I plan to spend time tomorrow at the gym, walking in the swimming pool.

For now, I'm sitting at my desk with the leg elevated and wearing ...
