  1. Sabre Khan initial thoughts

    by , 05-18-2008 at 05:23 PM
We had 45 for the event, three pools of seven and three of eight. The pools were flighted and I was in second flight, which was not a good thing and I knew it. Indeed, I was tired and a little stiff by the time my pool was called. In my pool, I had Clare Deming, Mark Whiteman, Chris Hvostal, Alex Ryjik, Dan Miszei, and Steven Yang from FASJ. Obviously, I was a little out of it and I knew I was from the beginning. I lost to some people I should--Alex and Steven Yang--and also lost to two I shouldn't--Chris ...

  2. Roller Derby -- Valley of the Brawls

    by , 05-18-2008 at 12:03 AM
They lost. It was a close game and they held the lead most of the time until the final 10 minutes, which is like saying you were ahead 13-8 until they came from behind and won.

The Pike's Peak came out hard hitting and I think the referees let too many things slip. [I know, the old story: it's the referee's fault I lost!] The other team was rated higher and where I saw the major difference was on defense.

When the Sirens got the lead jammer and managed to own the ...

  3. Yet another boring exercise log

    by , 05-17-2008 at 02:46 AM
Thursday night I went from work to fencing so I did not exercise that night (unless one counts fencing).

I spent most of that evening working out with a newer fencer and drilling on parries. This was for my benefit as much as his because while I parry well when standing still, I have a bad habit of dropping my blade when I parry three while moving backwards. The best way to stop this, imho, is to drill over and over and over again.

Friday, I cut the grass and then went ...

  4. I have been assimilated

I also feel like I have been blown up like a balloon. While the tech said I actually slept much better than I did the last time. I know I woke up several times and once the air was blowing so hard as I opened my mouth air came rushing out. (yes I know they had to fiddle with settings to find the right one.

I also hated having all that crap on my head and the noise bothered me. (breathing sounds, not the machine. It was quiet)

Well, I woke up this morning and I did ...

  5. Schools out for summer!

    by , 05-16-2008 at 10:48 AM
School is out for summer. Well, college that is. The kids have all come home and it is great to see the amount of shear fencing that is going on at the school. We need to set up a fourth and fifth strip. I have been telling people down here for years about the lack of depth we have down here. You don’t have many generations of fencing competing against each other at the club level. People get into fencing and then get out of it down here like they change socks. We now have three generations ...
