Taking a break from grading sixth grade English exams (three classes down, one to go, and after that I have to finish grading their papers before Tuesday), I cycled over to yoga. This week, there was one other class member (Marissa, her name is), thank goodness, so the instructor couldn't devote her entire attention to making my knees and back do what they shouldn't oughta do. However, we seemed to be concentrating on the same things she was trying to make me do last week. I have gone backwards ...

  2. Veteran Day Fencing Camp Recap Day 1

    by , 05-31-2008 at 08:39 AM
It's traditional to have periodic fencing camps and they're usually held in the summer to prepare the younger athletes for the Summer National competitions. As some of us have noted, us older fencers aren't exactly well suited to the hours of physical conditioning exercises and other routines normally associated with fencing camps. More, most of us don't get the summer off to attend camps.

Thus, when Mr. Ma announced plans to include a Veteran component in his late June camp, some of ...

    by , 05-29-2008 at 11:23 AM
There are twenty-one confirmed WSV50 entries for the Summer Nationals and I don't recognize many of the names on the list. This is going to make for a tough competition (imho) and I very much want to stay in the top 8 on National Points. Thus, I'm planning to crank up the training another notch and see if I can add Tues. to the already fencing Wed., Thurs., and Sat. I also plan to stay later Sat. and see if I can fence the kids. I figure I can do the footwork drills at the same time they do ...

There was a good crew there. I managed to fence Nick L. before he left, then Jessi1, Tom, Dick J., and Dangerous Dan. I told DD that if he hurt me the bout was over, and he made a valiant effort not to.

Oh! And I took 5th in the pride challenge we were conducting on Mondays and Wednesdays up to Sabre Khan, and Ahren gave me my prize--what looks like about ten dollars--and a couple of printouts of all the results. I had very few fifteen touch bouts in the challenge because I always ...
