    by , 04-17-2008 at 10:39 PM
A couple of years ago, another veteran fencer took some time off to deal with health issues and she recently decided to pack it in and asked if I wanted to buy her stuff.

We're the same size. Including the gloves and shoes.

Thus, I now have a new, used bag (an Allstar rolling bag with two main compartments), two sabres, shoes identical to my own, glove, plaston, two chest protecters, jacket, knickers, two pairs of socks, one lame (without a name on the back) and two sets ...

  2. A goodly crew

    by , 04-16-2008 at 11:20 PM
Although Nick, Jessi2, and Ben were leaving as I arrived, Jessi1, Cricket, and Kiersten stayed and we also had Bob, Tom, Dick, Meng, Donna, Ahren, and Alexei fencing. I fenced Bob, Meng, Donna, Ahren, Cricket, Jessi1, Kiersten, and Alexei five touch bouts, managing to get in two fifteen-touch bouts with Jessi1 and Cricket. I lost to Alexei 4-5, Ahren 1-5, and Bob because he finished his attack properly. Jessi1 has been making good use of half retreats and was giving me a good deal of trouble ...

    May 24-26, 2008

I plan to be there. Anyone else?

I note that I am still feeling miserable. Part of this is carrying just a little more weight around the middle than usual. Part of this is overall grumpiness with life in general. Part of this is annoyance with the spousal unit, who promised to fill in the hole left after the septic tank draining if I didn't rush out and do it before he had ...

  4. I have a Dr.Excuse for being fat

    by , 04-16-2008 at 12:08 PM (Greybeard's Brain Blog)
OK, I am now updating my throwback status from the 60’s to the 90’s “it is not my fault.”

I met with the Dr. yesterday who read my sleep study. He emphasized the concern I should have for stopping breathing 27 times an hour. The “norm” is 5 or less and my blood oxygen level dropped to 86% when the norm is 92% or above.

He did tell me not to worry about my weight. (easy for him to say, the bean pole. I lost 35 pounds in the hospital and have regained 50)

    However, ...

  5. SDFCC RYC - Special Muffins

    by , 04-16-2008 at 03:57 AM
So this whole weekend I stayed close to home and refereed at the San Diego Fencing Center Challenge. I had a great time. And managed to sleep well.

Saturday I went to Starbucks to get my daily shot of caffeine and multiple sclerosis protection. Jared the barista, a friend of mine from Middle School, questioned me about my business-like attire. I told him I was refereeing at a fencing tournament. As he was making my green tea latte, he asked a bit about the tournament and fencing. ...
