  1. Monday night fencing

    by , 03-31-2008 at 09:55 PM
I took my daughter's wheeled bag and mine to the club to practice, and realized once I got there that I had left my uniform hanging in the laundry room. I wore her uniform, since it was stuffed in her bag from yesterday's tournament. She's five inches taller than I am but though the trousers were a bit long they fit me, and the jacket though loose in the trunk and shoulders wasn't too bad.

We had Bob, Meng, Mike, Matt, Kiersten, and Donna, so we did pool sheets for our usual challenge. ...

  2. Cherry Blossom yay :)

    by , 03-31-2008 at 01:33 PM
I reffed the cherry blossom all weekend. Probably the most enjoyable 2 days I've had in a little while.

Saturday was the mixed epee and the women's foil. I did a pool of mixed epee in the morning, that was pretty unfun. I really do not enjoy reffing epee on ungrounded strips. I was happy that as soon as that pool finished I was immidiatly given a pool of women's foil, and sent right out. The pool went well, pretty uneventful, but very well. Sunday morning, I felt lazy but finally made it to the gym before noon and left a little after two.

I put in a half hour of ET followed by the leg ET and then a lower body workout. I've decided to keep the reclining leg extension at 90 lbs since my primary objective is knee recovery, not bodybuilding. When it feels too easy, I'll increase the weights. I have also set 90 lbs. ...

  4. resolutions

About the mixed sabre, the less said the better. I was even less motivated than yesterday and basically was fencing because I had to be there while Jessica was fencing. My resolution was not to get peevish when hit hard by young men. More precisely, my goal was NOT to explain to them in annoyed tones that they have misjudged the distance between them and veteran women and attempted to hit someone about four feet behind me. I did not meet my goal, because my DE was with a very polite and respectful ...

  5. Ivan Lee's talk

    by , 03-30-2008 at 10:41 PM
Ivan Lee's talk held no surprises, but it was nice to have what we've been working on confirmed. Some notes.

    1. With the new timing. When you make your opponent miss, take an extra retreat to ensure you can't get hit with the remise.
    2. Chase your opponent in stages (my stutter-step broken footwork patterns, or the hanging step, or in Ivan's case pauses between the clusters of footwork) and don't get too close until you're ready to finish.
    3. Use beat-attack rather ...
