If there is one piece of fencing advice that is given more than any other, it is the one referenced in the title of this entry. It is almost impossible to go to a tournament and not hear it uttered at least once. The quote is of the title of the book I am starting to read - Kogler's "One Touch at a Time". I am only on page 46 and already the impact of his words is huge. The title has become a gross summarization of a myriad of concepts that a fencer needs to understand. ...
I went to see the neurosurgeon that originally sent me over to Barrow for treatment after my stroke for my quarterly cry. Every time I see him I tell him how I owe him my life and start blubbering. He responded yesterday by reminding me about the God of neurosurgery over in Phoenix. Every time he does that I remind him about whom it was that knew I had to get over there to see him. Touché. As noted in my previous blog entry, I am now working out in a gym at work (I hate exercise machines) in order to be a better fencer. The cause and effect have traded places.
Holy Heck have I been busy lately... Basically, every sense returning back to GMU from JOs, I have been doing work non-stop. I have been so fried and busy. Its killin me. I feel like almost every day my roommate is saying "hey, we're going to dinner, you coming?" or "Hey, ...
Fenced in Mannheim last night. I've been fencing more than this blog shows, but not nearly as much as I would like. Work, dog illnesses, my illnesses, etc., have really not helped the effort. NH, AL, Issey (!!!! yay !!!!!), and I. SW sat on the sidelines and was browbeaten thoroughly into agreeing to start coming regularly--he'd been fencing epee! I fenced ok. Feel for tempo and the physical ability to claim tempo sucked... well, what did I expect? ...
