  1. GMUFC at the Chaos Invitational

    by , 10-27-2008 at 11:07 AM
We just got back last night from fencing an event called Chaos. There were ALOT of very new fencers there, but there were some people that knew which end of the weapon to hold. Overall, the GMUFC results were very good. We didn't have any of our best fencers there, and we still medeled in every weapon.

Foil. Our B strip foilist fenced a very nice event, and took 2nd out of 35. I couldn't be happier for how it went. I saw alot of very good things from him, but I also saw alot ...

  2. A nice event with some good fencing.

Although my month off doesn't end until early November, I competed in a tournament at Temple today and I'm signed up for a tournament at Medeo next week. I always enjoy the Temple one, which is a nice sharpener for the Temple team, and the tournament at Medeo also offers a veteran mixed tournament as well as a women's, so I couldn't resist signing up.

And the Temple tournament was just as nice as I hoped and nicer, with a good representation of strong fencers from elsewhere, but ...

  3. Just Need an Ear.

Ok, so it is time for another pity party. I could not convince my wife to drive me to the local tournament today. I have not fenced since about a week before my seizure on September 8. Granted, that bought me a week in hospital, but I thought all this medicine, CPAP, carving my head like a melon, were supposed to make me better.

The reason for needing “Mommy” to drive me to the tournament is that my drivers license is suspended for at least 90 days. At that point I get re-evaluated ...

Or however you spell it. I drove home with a short stop for gasoline and food and I am too exhausted to correct the spelling. I figure if I don't post now, I'll forget it.

Over all, I'm happy with some things and annoyed with myself for others.

I left at a reasonable time, but forgot to grab my lunch and failed to buy anything before arriving at the site. Thus, between 0730 and 1530, all I had to eat was a very distasteful protein bar. This did not cause problems, fortunately, ...

  5. Lightbulb moment

    by , 10-24-2008 at 09:16 AM
In cartoons, sometimes a lightbulb turns on over a character's head to indicate they just got an idea.

Here's my lightbulb: Recovering from an injury can be a little like the adolscent years when nothing seems to work right even though everything is in working order. My left knee will never be what it was and I've been grumbling that I fenced better when it didn't work. Of course I did. I was working around it and relied upon bladework. Now, I'm using it again and I'm having to ...
