  1. Half the Peace Sign

For some mysterious reason, my middle finger has been bothering me. While driving for about 5 hours last week, I noticed that if felt sore and swollen and didn't want to bend. A day later, it turned brown from the tip of the finger to the base.

Today, the coloration is a little better but it's got that pins-and-needles, gone-to-sleep-on-me sensation, feels numb, and scared me to the point that I started Googling for medical causes during my lunch break.

    About fifteen ...

  2. Mourning and Memorializing the Mundane

Oh god. I just put my fencing bag down in the basement for the first time in... I have no idea how long. Months. Years? I don't know.

Getting back into fencing a couple months ago was funny. I couldn't remember which appendages I tape. I couldn't really remember the various rituals I have for various things. So I got back into them for a few months, and am now dropping them all again as I give up fencing until I finish my wretched dissertation.

  4. what?

Now I REALLY wish I were at World Vets, so I could satisfy my curiosity. What happened? Last year the US women finished 1, 2, 3, and 5 in the Vet-50. But the highest USA finisher in the Vet-50 this time was Jeannine Bender at 5th, with Heidi Runyan 7th and Jane Eyre and Sharol Pestotnik tied for 9th. Aubailly repeated silver, and Hutchinson from GBR was 1st.

This is a story I want to hear.

After 2 days in South Bend that felt longer, and a trip to Nashville for the granddaughter's surgery (the hole in her heart is now plugged), I spent the night south of Louisville so I could meet up with some other Vet fencers and fence before returning back to Indianapolis to fence (again).

While in Louisville, I was told they had a volunteer who was working in a degree program that could give me a free arm massage. The result of this is that I'm returning next Saturday (when our local ...
