Today was another very long afternoon/evening/darn near night at the local gym. I kept the weights at the same level as last time because I'm trying to ease back into this, not dive head first into it. I could have done more than 50 lbs. on the reclining leg press and I could have done more than 75 pounds on the calf exercise. I didn't think it wise to do more. I did give myself a good workout on the legs and then I did the every other day workout for the tendonitis problem. That ...
A co-worker directed me to a different kind of arm brace for tennis elbow. This one is like a sleeve with a removable gel piece that attaches to the inside of the sleeve with velco. Once in place, there's a strap just like on a regular tennis elbow brace. I wore this tonight to practice and fenced two bouts (1 to 10 and 1 to 15). I was feeling pretty good when Andria said, "Don't push it," and decided that was good advice. I use a cyrocuff to ice my elbow while ...
Name that tune: "I've seen the needle and the damage done..." On the eve of my yearly vacation-birthday party, I somehow damaged my left knee. It was not from trauma...I think it was building up the yardage too fast in lap swimming, especially the breast stroke with a whip kick. It hurt enough that I had it x-rayed while I was on vacation, but there were no chips of cartilage floating around. There was some arthritis, which didn't surprise me, but not enough to cause the throbbing ...
I was hoping to make a trial return to fencing tonight. Just a light workout with my epee. My foot, however, is saying "no" with every step I take. I have done everything recommended - stretching, ice, arch supports, anti-inflamatories - I even purchased a foot massager and a Strassburg sock. Each and every thing brought some relief, but none of them brought me a cure. The pain has subsided to a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, but there it stays. I know that if I try ...
I do not understand the unpredictability of tendonitis. Sometimes X will bother me and a little later it won't. Movement without resistance doesn't hurt but actual fencing, which usually leads to a clash of sabres, does sometimes cause some discomfort.
