  1. Clean Floor -- Good Knee Conditioning

    by , 06-15-2007 at 02:51 PM
It's been a long time since I've been able to get down on the floor and clean it properly* and I still cannot manuever the left knee the way I once did because it's simply too weak. Thus, I assumed a position where my right knee and both hands were on the floor and my left FOOT was on the floor. After I cleaned all I could reach with a paper towel, I pushed ahead as much as I could with the LEFT leg and thus managed to clean the floor and get a good left leg workout at the same time.

  2. First week of camp

    by , 06-14-2007 at 03:46 PM
I'm working the camp that Mark often works, which is allowing him to run a pre-Nationals camp at FAP and then get his hip replaced later in the summer. I've subbed for him at this camp for the last two years, but this is the first time I'm running it by myself for the full summer. O. M. G. I'm so tired! Cadet beginners for the first hour and a half, the your beginners for the next hour and a half. Quick lunch then a group of more experienced kids for the next hour and a half, some of whom ...

  3. Wednesday before a forced break

by , 06-14-2007 at 06:10 AM (My training log)
Mannheim. AL present--we drilled, then bouted in a desultory fashion for about 45 minutes. I was getting locked out by the machine repeatedly on one side, which AL explained was a result of his superior swiftness, until we switched sides and it quit happening, at which point, I explained that it probably had more to do with ghosts in the machine, caused by cumulative resistance in his battered and over-age lame, a battered reel, and various other minor connection problems....

  4. Last lesson before SN?

    by , 06-14-2007 at 04:37 AM
Last night's lesson was fraught with failure. I kept trying, and failing, to sweep to a proper parry. The objective was to start in three and -- seeing the threat move to four -- simply move the arm into four. I kept turning my wrist, wanting to take parry 5 and couldn't break myself of the bad habit.

We finished with another problem area of mine: Impatience. Specifically, I was to do a beat attack, be PATIENT and look for an opening, and then attack. Coach noted that my beats ...

  5. More step in step out step out

    by , 06-13-2007 at 09:02 PM
Today my eye doctor cleared me to do everything except swim in a swimming pool, which I don't do anyway, so I went into fencing.

Who was there? Meng, Dick J., Shannon, Nick L., Jessie2, Kumar B, Tom, Mike K., and Ahren. Zev came later.

I worked mostly on step in, double retreat, with all the variations. It was very successful with everyone. Except of course, Ahren, who was working on the same thing only jump in, jump out.

New tasks so often seem to ...
