  1. FAP tournament

    by , 03-24-2007 at 07:45 PM
We had 25 people! And Ahren had arranged for two real live referees (foil/epee, but what the heck), so I didn't have to self-referee!!! RITFencing came and introduced himself, and we had some pleasant chats in between things.

Kumar B, an FAP/Haverford fencer wanted to warm up with me. He has done pretty well against me the last couple of practices, but he hasn't fenced me at a tournament so he was a little startled. He brought Jacob with him; Jacob is one of my Haverford kids. ...

  2. Epee Directing Notes Online

    http://www.lindajdunn.com/fencing/directingepee.html

I decided to put my notes to myself online.

I think I've compiled the most important things to keep in mind and it does appear that it's not that different from sabre except that many of the things that happen in epee (such as tied scores) never happen in sabre.

I'm feeling a little more confident about this and I'll be going to the AFA location next Tuesday to brush up my directing skills and insure I'm ...

  3. Scoring epee in pools

    by , 03-22-2007 at 04:33 PM
    Another note to myself:

If two fencers reach a score of 4-all, they must fence for a deciding touch, up to the time limit. Any double touch will not be counted (and the fencers will therefore remain where they are on the strip).

If when the time limit expires there is a different of at least one touch betweent he scores of the two fencers, the fencer with the greatest number wins. The score is listed Vn - Dn.

If the scores are equal, set the timer for ONE ...

  4. Epee Directing -- More things to remember

    by , 03-22-2007 at 04:28 PM
Things I need to guard against:
    1. Calling halt too soon. Give the fencer a chance to riposte.
    2. If a fencer fleches without scoring a touch and crosses the lateral boundaries of the strip, the other fencer steps forward one meter while the fencer who left the strip retreats.
    3. A fencer who crosses the lateral boundaries with one or both feet to avoid a touch is carded. That one's no different than sabre but I've never seen anyone do it.

    Annulling touches: ...

  5. Epee Directing - Checking the Weapon

    by , 03-22-2007 at 03:51 PM
I'm going through the rule book and I've talked to people and it appears this is the SOP for the beginning of each epee bout:

I wait for the fencers to hook up to the scoring reels and check their weapons one-by-one. It's been suggested that I ask them to kneel to check their weapons but this sounds a little... well... regal of me.

    Kneel fencer!

Why? Are you going to knight me?

Okay... maybe it's my imagination running wild. I'm just used to ...
