  1. Not so deep thoughts

    by , 10-19-2007 at 07:12 PM
I made it to fencing at 4:30 by dint of keeping my work clothes on and zipping into the house only to pick up a pair of socks and a T-shirt. However, when I got there my locker was blocked off by tables & what-have-you stored for the Gala so it took me a little while to get changed. Ahren asked, as we were starting the lesson, "Are you feeling athletic tonight?" which made me nervous, though not as nervous as it should have. We started with four parries one target, then one parry ...

  2. From my Sickbed

It has been a while since I have written. Work has been super busy and I am about to embark on a crazy travel schedule. Unfortunately a lot of one night hits so I will not take my gear with me to drop in fence. I have to say, that is one of the things I really love about fencing. There are clubs in every city and I have even fenced in the UK and Europe. What a great way to meet people.

Steve was NOT a fencer; he was a bodybuilder and the first and only bodybuilder I'd ever really known (we worked in the same department for a few years). He was my first encounter with someone who had dedicated his life to achieving a goal that initially appeared to bring no significant monetary compensation. In fact, he quit his job (he was a co-worker) and went to work for a subcontractor so he could work part-time and devote more effort to bodybuilding.

  5. Accomplished goals

    I just need to vent.

I was directing a bout between two kids during the last part of sabre class last night. Now, I'm not the best director in the world, but I'm getting slooooowly better. When you spend a few years doing nothing but epee, your directing skills get sort of... rusty. Except for some odd floor touches that go OFF the grounded strip, or somebody flying off the side or end before a touch lands, there ain't a whole lot to decide, eh? You could be eating a sandwich and programming ...
