  1. Minor Injury

    by , 10-31-2007 at 08:24 PM
I hightailed it over to the health club to work out with the trainer. I'm feeling stronger and a little more stable physically even though we haven't connected as often as I want. I was a little stiff, though, so I did ten minutes on the treadmill and stretched a little before our appointment. It was a pretty tough workout, and what's pathetic is that it was all low weights high reps and I'm groaning like a creaky door part way through, even though it's clearly tiny weights. Grrrrr. I feel ...

  2. Off to the Tent

The latest bit of nonsense from the FIE, screwing with the rules, really has me thinking that the best thing that could happen to fencing is that it be dropped from the Olympic Games. Then perhaps we would lose some of the vast superstructure of officialdom and gratuitous rule-making that has evolved during the reign of Rene the Roach, and get back to fencing.

    1. I'm not against change that improves the sport. I think electric scoring and the banning of continuous cross-overs has ...

  3. Slightly broken husband

by , 10-30-2007 at 09:13 AM (My training log)
Last Wednesday--training in Mannheim. AL present. Warm-up, fence, lesson.

(I think I noted earlier that we've reintroduced wall drills into our warm-up, which I find very useful--we do the terce-quinte and quinte-terce/seconde variations, if you are interested).

    Lesson with Alex:

    1. S: extend, half advance. (Extend before advance).
    a. M: no reaction. S: retreat. I.e., break off action.
    b. M: retreat. S:finish advance, lunge.
    c: M: beat-cut. ...

  4. Pilate Reformer

    by , 10-29-2007 at 10:33 PM
Saturday my husband managed to hurt his foot painting the bathroom, and after icing, elevating, and wrapping it overnight we went to the emergency room. It's broken in two places. He's having difficulty getting around on the crutches--he's fallen twice. We live in a three-story row house, so he's been getting up and down the stairs on his butt.

Having managed to forget I had scheduled an orthodontist appointment and a trainer's appointment for the same time today, and after having ...

  5. Odd dream.

    by , 10-29-2007 at 07:12 PM
C had a cancellation today so she called me and asked if I was available to try the Pilate Reformer today rather than Wednesday. Thus, I wore my tennis elbow brace and gave it my best shot. She's going to call me Thursday and if my arm still feels okay, we'll schedule me for Pilates every Wednesday evening before fencing practice. [One hour gap between -- just enough time to ice the elbow and drive to fencing.]

    The good news: No pain.
The bad news: I've lost one heckuva lot ...
