Very soon the US Fencing Association will shutter the current web site at usfencing.org and direct traffic to the new site at fencing.teamusa.org. The move, expected to occur on January 1st comes after a great deal of planning and preparation. Craig Harkins of Fencing.Net spoke with Christine Simmons at the Colorado Springs NAC to get some of the details.
Sada Jacobson and Nellya Fencers in Atlanta were featured on CNN Headline News Health Minute which aired Monday December 19th. The USFA released the following information via email and a forum post today: US Fencing is pleased to announce the appointment of Kurt Aichele as its new Executive Director. Kurt brings sport, for-profit and not-for-profit experience to the association.
Rebecca Ward was honored at the FIE Congress on December 6th as the 2007-2008 World Cup Champion. Ward earned this distinction by earning the most points in Senior World Cup competition in women's sabre during the 2007-2008 season which concluded at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Alisher Usmanov defeated Rene Roch in the election of FIE president today by a vote of 66-61. The member nations of the FIE (International Fencing Federation) each had one vote and chose to change from the incumbent leadership of Roch.
The mood after the vote was announced was one of shock as existing FIE staff are left to wonder what, if any, role they will have under the new administration.
