The US Fencing Association reported today that Michael Pederson will be returning to the post of national coach for the women's foil program for the remainder of the 2012 Olympic quadrennial.

Pederson recently resigned as US Fencing's High Performance Director following the 2009 World Championships.

How US Team Captain Jeff Bukantz sold the story of fencing to Showtime.


In 2008, the film crew for Bud Greenspan Presents: America's Olympic Glory, was in Beijing at the fencing venue, this time hoping to capture a story of redemption for Sada Jacobson as she tried to move from Athens Bronze to Beijing Gold.

What they ended up with was a story of redemption and hope, but from a somewhat unexpected corner.

Foil with Lame BibThe new foil mask featuring a portion of the bib as valid target area will not be used next season for domestic US Fencing events.

The motion to include the foil bib as target and match the current international fencing ruling from the FIE would have had the new foil mask a requirement for national events as early as October and put off the requirement for local events for a year.

The motion was withdrawn without a vote or debate on the matter.  No additional discussion as to when the USFA might adopt this rule change was held.

Tim Morehouse with President ObamaPresident Barack Obama attacked 2008 Olympian Tim Morehouse with a lightsaber on the South Lawn today during an event to drum up support of the Chicago bid for the 2016 Olympics.

2008 Olympic silver medalist Tim Morehouse and 2009 US Women's Sabre team member Daria Schneider conducted a demonstration bout on the South Lawn in which President Obama served as the referee.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, September 16, 2009, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will host an event on the South Lawn of the White House with the White House Office on Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport, Chicago2016 and United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and highlight the Obama administration’s commitment to service, healthy living and youth sport.

Two of the athletes selected to participate in the program are 2008 Olympic fencing silver medalist Tim Morehouse and 2009 US National Team member Daria Schneider.
